Okay so who actually lives/works close to Frankie & Spike?

I certainly hope "factory" service will be as good as Canon where I just drive over and get a quick test to confirm my problems and then pick up my camera days later. I usually swing by Promax too (nearby Canon) to see what Apple "should" be showing off at NAB this year.

I'm thinking Chapman's new Dodge Theatre would be a great local place to host a press conference showing off the future for Digital Cinematographers or maybe for a big RED Users meeting.

Hopefully there are a few RED Cams that will stay close to the laboratory!

P.S. I have no association with Chapman, but here is some music for the event:

I'm in Orange - at Chapman, actually. I personally think it would be a rather unfortunate place to hold any RED-related event... considering it's a school [So the RED ONE is only a student tool? Not a professional tool?], we don't have a 4K projector [2K infrastructure and projector], we don't have any RED reservations, we don't have any big-name cinematographers, we have a very anti-digital-aquisition faculty [it's just "HD," screw it], etc.

Spike and the rest of RED live down in Lake Forest.

I'm in San Diego-- I look forward to driving up the 5 and picking up my RED in person. Hopefully I'll get a little tour while I'm there... ;)

Hi guys,

I'm in Irvine. Jarred, how do like Newport so far? I used to live on the Balboa Penninsula and it was fun. The real fun starts during the spring break and continues until September. Enjoy!

Sorry to hear that the faculty are so anti-RED. Most faculty these days tend to lean towards the old RED side. ;)

Seriously though the facilty is quite nice and speaks to the hope of future film production even if they are mired (for now) in the old methods. Many say it is the top film school building in the USA. People like to visit purpose built facilities (college campuses) and this one just happens to be close to the RED offices. I'm hoping the RED Team outgrows their current space quickly, but still stays behind the ORANGE Curtain.

And remember if you combine a RED with YELLOW faculty, you'll be in ORANGE.

Sorry for that, ;)

Nah, RED needs to move to central FL, Orlando for instance, where they have lots of support for digital acquisition and no earthquakes.

Red loves Earthquakes.. in fact Red is known to make them. Just ask the rest of the camera companies in Los Angeles.

Hey from the one and only OC (and you can't cancel a county) to the other Orange County (with a bigger but not better Disneyland)

We've got Frankie yes we do - we've got Spike so how 'bout YOU!

Rosco

P.S. I'm ready for March Madness!

In Orlando and surrounding places, you can buy a very nice house for under 300K, not a condo, not a shack, but a house with a yard and a driveway.
hehehe. And there is plenty of local talent for acting and crew.

Wish I lived back in FL.

Gotta love it. Next time I the building starts shaking here in Los Angeles I'll reassure everyone around me with "Don't worry, that's just Jim and company shaking up the film industry again. I better go check RedUser and see what he did this time!"

Hey our citrus crop is freezing out here so we may all be moving to FL soon.

Oh wait, we covered up all our groves with Freeways and housing so only our REDs are freeezing in ORANGE county, but if we do get better factory service because we have no crops to protect - so be it!

BTW: Do you think Canon will be trying to buy RED from Jim?

I am a San Diego guy myself, but where is the love for all the far flung RedHeads?

Seriously though, I do think that local/regional RedHeads should get serious about networking beyond the online forums. For starters I think there is a huge upside to having someone close by to call if you have problems, particularly someone who can bring a camera and save the shoot day so you don't burn a producer who throws you a ton of work. Especially in the early going the producers will be skittish and a bad experience will reverberate throughout the entire local client base.

Anyone interested in a San Diego based Red User Group please respond either on list or by PM. My email is alacritymedia@cox.net.

You call it Lake Forest, I call it Mecca.

By the time they hit Orlando, they usually settle down to CAT 1. Most Floridians sleep through those. hehehe.

You gotta have an exit plan to keep on top of the money pile. Canon is not that bad a company and they do understand cameras... At some time the RED team may want to build a better 4K projector... ;)
