With 11 days to go, I want to take a moment to thank all of you. We have listened. At 1st, it was difficult. We kept saying to ourselves "don't these guys know how difficult this stuff is?"... and "if they want that, they should try and build one themselves!". Then we really began to get comfortable with the tiger we had grabbed hold of. And many of the suggestions actually seemed within reach. So we decided to really stretch ourselves. The results of that stretch will become apparent on the 13th. Many of you have had input that pushed us to reach higher.
Of course there have been many suggestions that are just out of the question. They are either impossible or not realistic at a reasonable price. If those suggestions were serious (I sincerely hope they were not)... a few might actually be disappointed. But I doubt it. Especially if everything is considered.
Long way around saying that many of you have made a difference. That really is what this forum is supposed to be about. If we responded harshly early on, it was just because we didn't know how to do it all. Now we do. Well, at least much of it.
Put your helmet on. The 13th is near. It is only fitting that I should post here 1st, then on red.com. You guys matter.

It's great that the RED team has put effort into figuring out HOW to do things that customers wanted, even if it wasn't in the original plan. That's just still badass to me.
Thanks Jim and team.

So a cappuccino dispenser on the scarlet is still out of the question or was that one of the more reasonable requests. I don't drink coffee any way so it will probably be okay either way. You know best.
The anticipation is killing me......
Just waiting on the river to put my chips down!!!!!!!

I respect all what is happening its your policy, plan ... my only question is: why you made us wait all this time without feeds? the policy of RED ONE didn't have all that wait for exposing what in the labs.. I just wanted to know the reason behind the plan of holding information until a certain time...

I gotta say, you guys are the only company I have ever come across (with the exception of some bike or ski companies) that actually take this much personal interest in and care of your customers. Even those who dont use your products (yet).
Also, you deliver.

Confession: I don't need this camera - It's way more than I require for broadcast doc work. But being (a small) part of this movement is just too cool to resist. The way Red has come to be is so unique, and the spirit Jim has imbued in the Red team is so visionary, I just gotta stay on board. I've learned a lot more as a shooter. I've also learned a lot about waiting. These 11 days are nuthin' compared to the year waiting for the camera. Bring it on.

Im just hoping my redone will not be left in the dark.
I've been babying it since i got it, shining it and keeping it clean
and i just hope red still loves little r1.
Future proof
Even if i upgrade to epic i wish i had the money to keep my red one body
it is a beautiful design by red, something so futuristic
when im shooting for others and when im in my studio
im always stuck gazing at it and lost in thought at its hal9000 control,
it is a good time to be alive.
i dont have any money left
and im happy.
i have creative tools that dont lose value
i have all i need to make my dreams come true
and i put my money on red
and i won
more than i ever have in my life
i remember when i was going to get a redrock m2 adapter for my just purchased hvx200 and i figured i was set
and then someone on dvxuser said if your gonna run that just check out red
and i did, and i was blown away
it was shortly after that, that talk of it being used for wanted peter jackson
and a few others really amazed me, i just figured i was getting the better version of the hvx200 redrock m2 setup, and after the last god knows how many days months and more i spent on reduser i have walked away from an online college of education, reduser, so many helpful teachers, and the usual distracting students which i can be at times as well, but i really tried to find a place to thank all of the people who have put the information up fro me to share in and learn from and participate in, thanks jarred and alot of others, it is not easy to communicate ones self on an online forum and have sarcasm humor respect and happiness and more read out perfectly. It is so interesting to see people from all over the world coming to this site daily and exsisting, reduser has come a long way from fanboys to haters and red elitists.
the dynamic is almost perfected
and i am glad i am a part of the future
thank you red
and worldwide redusers
just wait till you see my movies
i have a funny feeling they are going to be just as good as yours ; )
and i use to think i was going to change the game on my own.

I don't think anyone really realizes how important Jarred is to the RED program. Running reduser and scarletuser is the LEAST of what he does. I have never worked with anyone that understands the vision of what I see as well as he does. He is the one person that can tell me I've lost my mind... and I will actually listen (sometimes). We trade 30 emails a day when I am out of the office (he is the adult supervision when I am gone) and usually it is to tell each other of the same idea at the same time. Which makes it my idea, naturally...
RED could not be done without the team we have assembled. Every person matters. But without Jarred...

Very true big jim and very awesome to see my quote above your words
i am a proud red owner with all fixings and i thank you
i also dont think you realize what you have done with red
and i am really blown away at what red is turning into
everyone who talks about red has the usual variable angles
and the one thing they are all not realizing is that all of the other camera companies that i wont bother naming, dropped the ball, that you picked up and molded and fabricated innovated modified and anodized. lol.
They dropped the ball because they dont have a jim jannard
how awesome it is everytime you come on this forum and people freak out when they see that big jim chainsaw and they are little fish swimming with the big fish and they are so eager to thank you and share in this epicness that you have created, funny too because alot of the stuff i shot with r1 people i work with end up saying after they get a shot, "epic" as in how epic their shot looks.
I'm pretty sure when they shoot on epic they will just be speechless.
thanks jim and yes jarred gets second place for the hype after people see his mr. nice guy smile when he posts, which almost always reads out as "hey guys, i just got another look behind the curtain and let me tell you, you wish you could be me" lol
he just happens to be a nice guy so its ok : )

Jim
I for one will be right there with you. I have been around since the "dvxuser" days but it was quickly obvious to me that RED was way more camera than I would know what to do with.
Give me anything close to the original scarlet specs and price that I can take underwater and I am more than right there.
I've been trumping both RED & scarlet to everyone who will listen for some time now.
I have had people try to convince me to get some "high-end" Sony camera & housing that records "4 times the bandwidth of HDV" only to have them look at me like I am a moron when I say I am waiting for my scarlet :)
rock on.

Well Jim. You produced a digital cinema camera so people like me could make the movies we always wanted to. I received #214 (Andrea) in January and reached into my archive of movie ideas. While breaking Andrea in on various client jobs I finally wrote the screenplay for "Plastic", an idea which people have been bugging me to do for almost twenty years. So I'm dedicating "Plastic" to you and the Red team. Best of luck on the 13th.

You know, my dream was always to make movies for a living. That's it, plain and simple. I'm a writer, editor, director, producer. I wear a LOT of hats, as most of us do.
Film has always been my passion, but unfortunately due to budget constraints I was unable to produce "studio" quality material. And that held me back, at least in the eyes of investors and executives. I've shot several films, all with the Sony HVR-Z1U. It looked alright, but no matter how much time and effort I put into each project, at the end of the day it still looked like something you'd find on youtube.
Then RED came along. I finally managed to get my hands on a camera and immediately went to work. My film's still in the editing pipeline and I've already gotten a LOT of attention from investors, distribution execs, etc;. And the best part is... I'm presently awaiting the paperwork to close a finance deal to shoot a feature-length WW2 picture. A script that I've had in the works for years, my "baby" you could say.
The RED camera gave my project the production value of a "studio" film and showed the investors what I was capable of, given the right tools. Everyone thought we shot on film, it was amazing!
Now, my company has taken off and I'm living my dreams thanks largely to RED. Thank you so much for all of your hard work! You've given people like me the tools to realize their visions and achieve their dreams. This company is like no other, serving as a role model for what other corporations should be. RED has done something most companies never do... they've achieved greatness and earned the respect and support of their customers.
I can't say it enough... thank you to everyone at RED. Thank you for helping me live my life-long dream! :)

Sometimes what seems logical at the costumer side, just seems "impossible" at the company side. That's why red one was developed by it's own prospect consumers in the first place. Enthusiasts can reach for the impossible, thinking they are only going after what they want. Kudos for RED to see that, and don't turn themselves into a "company". Keep being ethusiasts!

Just so you know...
JimI'm glad to join the big boy's playground aka dvxuser.com before all this have happened. It was easy to guess this community was already a true pre-revolution. With a market out there, it missed your genius joining his inventive talent. You made that magic team which has made the proletarian revolution called RED.

Okay, time to change tactics :-)... Jim Jannard, you're obviously the man of one word, faithful...to yourself as much as you are to your customers.
Red is rocking the boat upside down again... great... It's nice to see you figure out the future, draw a totally new picture and invent precedently unconceived tools for our dreams to come true. But until now, my own dream has not really come true. Jim, you wrote me once about a sleep mode : "why can't you wait until this feature is allowed"... I took your word, again... How about taking down power consumption , so that I can hike up my way to my subjects with my red, my tripod, my evf, my drive, my sigma 300-800, and PLEASE no more than 4 battery packs ? So much has been and will be achieved...

My wife has worked with me for the past 15 years as a production coordinator and on-set photographer, so she is way stoked to see me visit my other "family" here on RED User! She knows it is the best networking and learning opportunity I'll have during each day...
As for my heartfelt thanks to RED, I spelled that out in the "Thanks RED!" thread I started here on RED User a few days ago...

My wife is due (with our second boy) on the 8th - should be out in plenty of time for the announcement.
Besides ... I am hoping to avoid refreshing REDUSER.net on my iPhone while she's in labor ...

Instead of fiddling with cameras, Jim, I think you should replace the story editors on "Lost". You know more about cliff-hangers than Hitchcock :). I think you are the "Master of Suspense".
I can see the titles of your movies now; "Strangers on a 4K Train", "Dial in the LUT of Murder", "Red Window", "4K The Birds", "The Trouble With Sony", "The Man Who Knew Everything About Epic", "The 39 Steps of the FedEx Guy" and of course, "Psycho".
This is the part in the movie when Roy Scheider stumbles into your office and says:"We're gonna need a bigger Thread." Then we cut to the cheesy announcer saying: "Will Jim and Red Team survive the ravenous, cut-throat mob of Red Users, desperate for a taste of Scarlet flesh!? Tune in next week!"
I love suspense. I hope it lasts...

I'm excited to see what you guys are cooking up behind the curtain. I think the Red One was/is a great camera.
What I'm more curious about the new body is if it will have any sort of under/overcranking available. If so and at the right price point/release date it would likely be the most desired camera around.

As mentioned earlier Poitín (Pronounced "Putcheen" or "Putteen") depending on what part of Ireland your from is an illegal spirit or moonshine to our friends on the other side of the big pond.
Very good in small doses but only from reputable sources, can be lethal. It was made in a pot still from grain or potato's. Its still made today but in very secretive places. My first documentary on Scarlet maybe!! You heard it here first.
By the way whiskey note the "e" denotes Irish whiskey as opposed to Scotch which is sometimes spelt without the "e" (Whisky) came from Gaelic Uisce Beatha which means water of life could not be pronounced correctly by our English speaking neighbours who visited us for a while(ahem!) and the nearest they could come to the pronunciation was "whiskey".
Rock on Jim and Jarred! I'll have a drink for you on the 13th.:bleh:

Jim
Can you tell us what suggestions seemed impossible or not realistic at a reasonable price? LOL

I like this idea...
That was in regards to the countdown clock. I've seen this done before, and the sites often go down within a minute or two of the end of the count, because all the page refreshing looks exactly like a denial of service attack. So, unless you're prepared for a 10,000x increase in page serves per second, I'd recommend against it. Let it get posted at some random time and people will arrive to check randomly, and the site will stay up.

count on a fellow canadian to introduce poutine on a forum about camera's. :) Although they have more in common than you think. Both, Red Camera's and poutine, give you a warm, delicious, " I could bask in it's glow all day" kind of feeling. Red is just easier on the arteries.

It's not exactly illegal. I had Poitin served in a pub in Ireland, County Donegal. My friend and I asked for it and they told us we had to go around back to get it. We stumbled around the narrow gully between the pub and a rocky hillside, until we got around to a little double door. The barkeep opened the top half of the door and served us two shots on the bottom half. Thing was, it was just the back of the bar. The whole pub, including the police constable could see us.
Totally off topic. But true.
I highly recommend the northwest coast of Ireland.

LOL... that's a funny story. Probably just made you do that to give you a story and have a laugh, that would be typical Irish humor. I lived in Dublin for about 5 years and spent a lot of time traveling the coasts surfing... the locals in those small towns love when yanks come through because it provides everyone with much needed entertainment.
