First shoot with Red this Thursday with two Reds.

We have a tech run this evening with the Audio guy who tried to input LTC timecode into the timecode port of the Red. No result. I am not strong on timecode stuff. LTC is an analogue signal right?

What kind of timecode signal does the Red accept?

You need to turn on on Red Camera Jam Sync function , and then connect RED to Any Sound Recorder (with time code out ) Then you need to restart your RED ONE CAMERA , when red will turn on it will be sync with Recorder.
It works for 100 %.

P.S Don not forget to sync camera every time that you change battery .
And also your Slate must be sync with recorder , not with camera.

What is generating the TC you wish to sync to?

What frame rate is being used on the TC source?

What is the project framerate on the RED?

Is JAM Sync turned on?

There's no need to restart the camera. To confirm the Jam Sync, just roll a short clip - you'll see chainlinks in the top of the LCD.

Well, no one has really addressed the question.

Timecode is being generated by the audio guy from a box which I did not catch! Done via XLR to Lemo in.

Same timecode base.

Jam Sync is definitely on.

One thing for certain is that he was using LTC time code.

The RED accepts normal LTC timecode, which is compatible with analogue audio.

It could be as simple as a defective TC cable, as we have broken a few on shoots.

It needs to be the "correct" Lemo adapter cable, as the Lemo 5 pin is both TC in and out.

As mentioned, LTC is what the camera is expecting. Is this over a radio link perhaps? If the signal isn't saturated (i.e., "loud" enough) then sometimes it won't work.

You should see the TC numbers change when you enable Jam Sync (this is assuming you have a formatted magazine in the camera, otherwise you won't see TC at all). However, as I said, the camera doesn't actually jam until you roll something - at which point you should see chainlinks.

Ok, that is very helpful. Thanks to everyone.

Please can some one confirm how the Red TC cable is wired.

I assume its a cross over. So its is TC out to TC in both ways. Is this correct ?

Is this a standard cable config for other kit also ?

thanks,
