View Full Version : Rehouse Nikon lens from P+S Technik or Samcine ?

I want the spec of the Nikon rehouse lens that Samcine did with Nikon and P+S technik did with the Zeiss:
So far:
Samcine are BNCR mount and P+S Technik are Nikon mount
But does the Samcine cover the S35mm Red sensor ? Seem that the P+S Technik rehouse Zeiss will have a "field of view factor" of x1.6 or something and the Samcine may not.
Does the Samcine focus barrel turn the way of cine lens and the P+S Technik still turn the Nikon's way ?
Samcine rehouse lens were made in the 70' and 80', less sharp then the P+S Technik Nikon Zeiss... but they have wide angle lens (15mm, 16mm, 18mm) and the wider lens from Zeiss is the 25mm.
Thanks

I do not know about the Samcine lenses, but Christine at ZCG.com comfirmed with me that the P+S Technik lenses still rotate Nikon's way.

Hi Ryan,
Ive talk to her yesterday, nice custumers service btw, but since there is no wide lens like the Samcine have, i'm wandering if i will buy the ZEISS ZF 18mm and just put a focus ring on it...
Plan to try thoses P+S Technik soon...

Hi,
Both lenses will cover 8 perf so will cover Red 4k which is very much smaller.
Ignore any nonsense such as crop factor, any lens of the same focal length on a RED will have exactly the same angle of view.

Also check out the rehoused lenses at rplens.com . Great business and very good customer service. He can find you any lens you ask for. I have a set of super speed nikons at 1.2-1.4 from 24mm up through 135mm. Its a great alternative to the p+s technik lenses at such a high cost.

These are NOT rehoused lenses.

Exactly, i have those lens btw... What i need is bigger focus mark. Thats why i want to go with the rebuild P+S technik lens or Samcine Nikon lens.
I need some wider lens then the 25mm that P+S technik do... and the crop factor, since thoses ZEISS ZF lens are made for 35mm photographic, dont help my choice of a nice set of primes.
Didnt find enough tests or informations about the Samecine Nikon lens... got to order them and try them i guess.

.
Hi,
There is no crop factor, a 25mm lens on a Red one is ALWAYS a 25mm lens regardless of whether it is a 35mm still lens or not.

Hi,
I have doubts about it that there is no crop factor on RED.
I tested Canon 15 mm FD expecting a fisheye effect but nothing like that happened.
It look as a rectilinear lens with a bit of perspective distortion but not like with a full
fisheye perspective distortion that shawn at full frame film photo 35 mm.
That means I've got just a center or a crop portion of a full 35 mm image.

i had a shoot this summer with a set of p+s lenses (starting at 25mm) and i liked the optical quality, but if you are searching for bigger focus marks or more travel between the marks you might be disappointed :-(

Hi,
Every 15mm lens you put on RED will show the same angle of view.

Hi,
Take a 50mm for a 6 x 6 camera, a 50mm from a 6 x 4.5 camera, & 50 mm from a Nikon F Full Frame & a Nikon 50mm from a D70 or other DX. All will have Identical FOV when fitted on your Red one camera.

"UNDERSTANDING CAMERA LENSES"
from cambridgeincolour.com has a nice

Also must read:

Indeed, but totally irrelevant as we are talking about using lenses on a Red One camera, so any 50 mm lens will be the same. Lens focal lengths do not change when you mount a lens on a different camera, with your IMS mount I would have thought that would be clear to you.

Hi,
Shooting with a 50mm Full Frame lens & a 50mm DX lens both on a DX frame sized camera will give you an identical image. Basic lens theory is very simple.

2 Different camera bodies! Put both lenses on the DX sensor camera. A RED ONE camera has a similar sensor to a DX camera.

Also if you could manage to put (impossible) ARRI/Zeiss Master Prime 50 mm on a full frame 35 mm photo camera you'll get natural and optical vignetting because MP lens is designed just for S35 mm but not designed for 35mm photo full frame.

That is correct, you may get almost a circular image but the focal length does not change.

Hi Stephen,
so let's conclude:
"The lens focal length does not change just because a lens is used on a different sized sensor-- just its angle of view.
A 50 mm lens is always a 50 mm lens, regardless of the sensor type."
As you mentioned before.

Hi,
Therefore if you are looking for a fairly standard lens set of an 18, 24, 35, 50 & 85. Those lenses can be Cooke / Zeiss / Nikon / Cannon or Sigma etc, or a mixture & the focal lengths written on the lenses will be what they actually are.

Correct.
For a standard lens set is something like this:
Focal Length (mm) 18, 21, 24, 28, 35, 50 85
Diagonal (°).........100, 91.7, 84.1, 75.4, 63.4, 46.8, 28.6
