Greetings! I'm Kire (#5011)

My RED is almost ready, and I am finalizing my order and trying to come up with the best configurations and accessories.

I work in Kenya Africa, doing wildlife and tribal documentaries. Our system has to be as streamline, and as practical as possible. I have ordered the base production pack, but will most likely never use the rails. I have seen a few hand held setups that seem light and practical, and I wonder what RED and other users suggest?

The Reel Show covered the DP from 24, who had a very simple set up which looked very good - is there anything available now that is similar that I can order anywhere? I use a Sachtler DV 12 tripod. I wonder what quick release situation I can use? Would it be worth my while to get an Arri camera plate and shoulder dove mount? I need to be able to go from tripod to shoulder with ease.

I'm buying 3 Nikon lenses - any suggestions or pitfalls I should be aware of?

Also, my sound man uses a sound device 442 field mixer, and connects to camera via a hirose snake connecting cable. He wants to know if anyone does the same, and how they have gone about connecting the RED with right angle mini XLRs?

Thanks everyone! Kire www.kiregodal.com

Thanks for that! Yes, Kenya is going Obama crazy. Even a spontaneous public holiday has been declared for tomorrow.

Just looked at this, and it seems very heavy with all the rails etc...
I am 125 pound female - need a light, practical solution for hand held.

Id go with the Ronford moose bars and get a shouder pad, Id also use the Red/ Wedge plate base and not use the REd base plate and bars.

You can order the component parts fro the Red site ie Disk pack and Battery mount seperatly. Also you may like to use the Element technical or other weight weight bars on the top of the Red. Rd is not a lightweight camera so all you can do to get the weight down the better.....

Theres a seperate thread runnign here on EVF mounts, The lightest mount I think may be the Zacuto but you can also make a good job of it with a second 5 inch arm to mount the FVF on two 5 inch arms. Its also the least expensive solution.

The Ugrip rig is pretty compact (albeit expensive!). I picked one up - haven't actually used it - but it wasn't that heavy. It is available now though.

ET has a well reviewed handheld rig. They are not shipping yet.
