The Zeiss ZE lenses are definitely a very welcomed series for me and many I know.

I first used the ZF series and was very impressed with the build and the known qualities of Zeiss lenses such as Sharpness, clarity, clean clinical look, and the unique capacity of separating subject and foreground/background, creating good 3D looks.

Obviously the absolute most important factors here are that even so they continue to be fully Manual lenses, this new ZE series will have electronic contacts and will communicate with the camera giving all needed EXIF and other info to the recording media, and that is a great improvement in it self, and again many EOS users will take this lenses to the test.

I for one!

ciao

How does zeiss compare to canon L glass?

As said in other posts, the main differences are:

Zeiss is a fully manual lens only, and in truth is much more solid as a build, very mechanically precise and fantastic to focus with.

Canon is intentionally build as Full Auto focus lens with (MF) Manual Focus possible but never as good as the Ziess, and build is very good especially on the "L" series glass, but not at par with Zeiss.

Zeiss has a clean clinical feel to its images similar to that of the Big Cine brothers, but not to be compared to them.

Canon has a warmer feel to the image, similar to that of Cooke but again not to be compared to them.

This are the two main differences, apart from that, both lenses are great, but different in what they offer and how they offered, good thing is that now with the new ZE zeiss, the electronics are transmitted to the body and there is finally the much needed info.
