Sorry if this is a little off-topic.

I just received word from the store I pre-ordered my 5D2 at that Canon Canada has increased the cost from $2,789.99 to $3099.99. Every vendor I know of is passing 100% of this increase to their customers (even if they pre-ordered at the original price).

Now I really can't wait for next week's announcement to see if I can get out of this Canon BS.

Does this have anything to do with currency fluctuations?

Yeah I don't think it's a cash in on an already pricey camera. Much more to do with the current economic issues in the world.

Yeah, Canon probably pegs the North American price to the US Dollar?

absolutely.. its because the Canadian dollar has fallen drastically.. so to the dealers its equivalent to them be charged 20-30% more for the cameras, and margins aren't that big anymore to absorb that.

so happy I got my Red in March:)
Majority of vendors in Canada have already adjusted their prices.

It certainly has to do with currency fluctuation. That said, Canon didn't react like this when the CAD was worth more than the USD earlier this year (i.e. lower prices in Canada).

I digress.

Hopefully I'll soon be able to participate in these discussions as RED user rather than an observer. I've lurked around here for a few months - some very smart, talented people here.
