Can we please get a feature such that we can select the HDMI out to be 480i if we choose? This way we can get an inexpensive simple D to A converter to go out to an SD field monitor without the AJA box. That would be, so very nice.

That would be nice but with everything going to HD and HD field monitors getting lower in price i don't think it would be a viable thing for too long

Yeah, but I have a great Sony SD 9" field CRT that is a great size and I want to keep using it. Also I want to be able to use SD steadicam monitors without that dang AJA box. I'd rather buy a box of 5x5 Tiffen filters than spend $1800+ just to drop the signal to SD!

Did I miss something, I can't remember seeing HDMI output on the camera. I think that you are stuck with the AJA box to get from the HD-SDI to a standard definition NTSC or PAL signal. But I think that for just barely more than the price of an HD10C2 you could get an HDLink and a high definition LCD? The LCD won't have accurate colour but you probably wouldn't be doing colour monitoring with it just focus and framing?

Last I heard, the camera has HDMI out, at 720p, with overlays.

Here's a diagram showing the camera I/O, it's been reviewed by various Red team members so I don't think it's wildly wrong. It includes HDMI @ 720p

Yup, HD-SDI/HDMI is there... I'm just not paying close enough attention I guess. But I don't think that anything less than 720p is in the spec for that? But hey, I've been know to be wrong... like about half a screen back.
Anyway, for about $2,000 you could get a Marshall V-R104DP-HDSDI that would give you a nice 10.4" monitor without the bother of a converter box?
Or the smaller 7" for $1,700 if you feel that would work better on a Steadicam.
I guess you could eBay the 9" Sony to help go that route. A good Sony goes for over $2,000 new so it should get you part way there - if you can make yourself part with it.
But you still wouldn't have that nice box of Tiffen NDs and polarizer filter.
You feel that the Red LCD is too small? Or is this for the director or DoP to monitor while the camera operator uses the on camera display?
