Have you guys seen the new Sony XDCAM EX.
Seems like a great HVX type device, with 1/2" imagers.
Would have been a fantastic camera if it was built in 2004.
But alas it wasnt, too little too late. but the good news is,
one more large company adapting Expresscards for storage.
This is great for RED owners, competition and availability
of Expresscards will be a huge benefit for all of us.

go open source storage solutions !

Did you watch the EX presentation? I couldn't stop laughing! Their whole presentaion centered on arguments on how, in Sony's opinion, basically P2 sucks. I even cracked the presenters up at one point.

Yes, it would've swept the market had they introduced it two years ago. I don't know why Sony keeps missing the prosumer boat. For those of you who didn't see it, it's an HVX-sized, 1/2" 3CCD camera that records to solid state ExpressCard media (the media used in new Apple laptops). They showed a mock-up or protoype that you weren't allowed to touch--delivery later this year sometime, I guess. But yes, this did nudge me over to re-considering the ExpressCard option for RED.

I love the bandwidth of Expresscard storage. Easily handles the speeds necessary for 4k redcode.

If the format is open and not just a over patented Sony/Sandisc deal then it's certainly something to look forward to.

I actually really like this camera, I don't suppose this hilarious presentation is somewhere on the internet.

Or does no one care what sony has to say except me and maybe robert rodriguez

Sony have completely lost the plot over the last few years when it comes to hi end broadcast cameras.I mean they now have over 7 different recording formats!!!! Talk about a confused market strategy. You can pretty much by a camera in $2000 dolar increments from the A1 up to the Cinealta. I mean what would you buy?
Answer: You buy RED.
We are seeing the mighty beast floundering, its only a matter of time before it falls to the ground. Nice to see that the David and Goliath story is still so relevent:devil:

I don't think sony is going under anytime soon. Even if they completely loose the professional camcorder market, its still small to a company that size. A big company like that will eventually adapt to the water, or find a new market.

I think your the one that's lost the plot son everyone seems to think that sony is in trouble these days.

Sony is about as much trouble as the allies at the end of WW2

I agree with you that it is an interesting camera. Even with RED, there is room for compact low cost prosumer type cameras - if the price point is in the HVR-V1 range it would be nice to have that style camera with 1/2" chips.

Why would you say that? Because he didn't use one for Grindhouse?

Yes, because he didn't use it for grindhouse and because I'd bet he will be using red next. Why would he go back to sony ? 1080 ?

I don't quite follow that. He used Genesis, which is Sony technology and records 1080P to HDCAM SR. It would not be surprising if he used a mix of Genesis, F23 and RED in his next few movies. Remember he has a streamlined HDCAM SR workflow with multiple fx houses that will not be replaced instantaneously.

It will be fun to see his first RED movie, since he always does a great job in the DVD (or BluRay) with his "10 minute film school" and other features explaining how the movie was made. Plus his cooking school is usually pretty good too...

I think he used the Genisis for it's convenience and it's 35 mm lenses.

It would be a bit of a pain to shoot with the f950 in the field

Sony empowered us all in the past, but they did lose their way. They totally blew it with digital betacam which could have dominated the world as the standard definition format. For some reason they kept those prices high, then went to SX and then to HDV/Dvcam. Now it's merely a post house recording format.

Robert Rodriguez will continue to use Sony if he's on a Japanese tv commercial. They pay a lot of money to smile and say one word in Japanese. Ok guys, we'll all know we've made it when we've done a Japanese ad!

I just don't see him going back or using a mix of cameras when red is better than the others. Why would he use 1080 now that he can go 4k with a better work flow than he had for any of the other cameras ? No brainer; I would be shocked if he went back to Sony. (plus he is a cutting edge guy)

It's not that hard to believe really, 1080 isn't exactly low res people I saw superman returns on IMAX and that thing was sharp.

Sorry..don't believe it. Sharpness isn't the only superior attribute of red 4k.

Im sorry but i didnt mean for this to be a Sony Post,
it was meant to be enthusiastic about the ExpressCard format,
and how more companies and competition will help us RED users in the
long run. We need faster solidstate memory at competitive prices.

and this is a sign of things to come.
