Well to answer that I will share this last bit of the story.

I came to NAB 2007 with my little RED Metal R. It was funny how getting that Titanium R before NAB meant so much to me. Like I said, I pay attention to the small details.

RED had promised the R's before NAB; at least the batch that my serial number was in. It was important for me because this just would be some small proof that they could hit (albeit a small item) a deliver date. And when it came, It really felt good to have it. I drove to Vegas feeling like I had already hit the jackpot.

At the Apple Product Announcements night; and while eating and drinking in the Journalist area before the show, I spotted Mr. Jannard in a group with Mike Curtis.

I had never met Mr. Jannard before, but I really wanted to say thanks for getting the R to me on time (and before NAB)… since these little details really do matter.

I planned to coolly walk over there, pull out the RED metal R and say "Does this get me into the club". Cheesy I know, but I figured a funny Ice Breaker.

I guessed Jim would either nod his head or say "Ya, thanks for the purchase etc.". I presumed that he would be quick & cordial. You know, like a typical CEO. And to tell the truth, I was fine with that. That’s what I expected.

I guess assumed to little… "Expect the Unexpected" is what I should have thought.

Well Mr. Jannard sort of took me by surprise.

No sooner had I suavely said "Does this get me into the club" then he says (very warmly), "Thank you very much for your purchase" and then he says "Oh let me introduce you to my wife/significant other". Jim then started asking about me, and why I bought the RED ONE.

I mean, this guy was really nice.

And what struck me most was his honest sincerity. When it comes down to things like real sincerity, I am a hard one to be fooled. So needless to say I was thrown.

I never even got to THANK him and RED for getting the R to me.

I am telling you… I wasn't star struck; it was just that Jim wasn't what I expected (so this was new to me).

It actually was quite a comical scene, when I think about it.

I just started talking a bit incoherently and rambling. My big problem was I couldn't redirect my brain around this new information about Jim. I just assumed that I was dealing with a CEO like a lot of the ones I had met before. I'm not saying that these CEOs weren't nice; it's just that I really didn't ever feel much warmth and real sincerity. They all have their function, know their position, and that’s it, business as usual.

But not with Mr. Jannard

So basically it ended with me rambling to Mike Curtis as the room started moving to the seating area, and with Mike looking at me like, "Were you going with this dude?".

So to cap a long post (and I appreciate those of you that made it this far):

THANKS Mr. Jannard for getting the R to me before that great NAB.

My apologies for the late thank you, I hope you understand. But I do appreciate you watching the details.

Oh, and please keep that Vision going… it is inspiring.

Like I said, because of "It" I am making an extra effort to find a job, and company that has this type of Vision. I really believe lately this is something I have sorely been missing at a lot of the places I have worked at in the past.

I just now need to find employment at such a company, with Vision.

Most sincerity,

Michael McLaughlin
