Hi (Michael)

I am struggling to get my head around getting my seq out of MC with filmscribe then to Monkey with the CMX transfer. Could you do a step by step for this? I am sure others would find it useful.

When I get to monkey it doesn't ever seem to recognise the EDL I have created, not sure why.

Also I am wondering in a workflow for a seq that has effects and motion effects, what would be the best workflow. Avid MC via Monkey extract to DS then DPX down to Baselight? Or is it better for the colourist to grade the dpx then conform the graded dpx with the AFE from the offline in the DS?

I am starting to pull my hair out this end, it's all driving me insane.

Thanks for any help!!

Max

Actually, there is a very detailed step by step pdf document at www.avid.com/red.

You need MC 3.0.1 for this. There are changes to FilmScribe. This would apply if you're using CineXML or Redcine to create DPX files.

Or you can use EDL Manager and use an EDL in Monkey Extract. There is a new 16 character EDL template you should download from www.avid.com/red.

There is a number of reasons why Monkey Extract is unable to link to .R3D files. It's hard to say without looking into the project.

I would conform in DS first then export DPX for Baselight. You could do it the other way around but then you'd be coloring shots out of timeline context.

Can you zip your bin with sequence or the EDL generated from the XML here so we can check it out?

You should be able to conform the files generated by MonkeyExtract directly in Baselight using your desired EDL/AAF. If you get a new cut, just use "Copy Grades" in the EDL Import view to reconform. Once you're happy with the grades, you can render out a new bunch of DPX files into a new directory structure which mirrors the one generated by MonkeyExtract. You can then point the DS to this newly rendered directory structure.

Alternatively, as Igor said, you could export a single flattened sequence of DPX files out of the DS - this would represent the final conform. You'd then use the same EDL to notch this sequence into shots.
