There seems to be no advantage to buying a Red One after these new beasties start shipping. Will the One be shelved?

I hope not, cause I'd still buy it over the new stuff...

Hopefully, the whiners will start to ease off and think logically.

I think Jim has clones. How does he post so fast in multiple threads at the same time of 3:05? lol.

Whiners, and people who complain about whiners, tend to think more logically when they have more and better information.

"Scarlet will have limited format options."

...uh oh....that's what I was worry about. Does that mean we will not be able to change to a lower resolution and get higher frame rate out of a Scarlet S35? Is it locked at 5 and 6K....with 30fps maximum no matter what?

i didn't think so before Jim's post. That would seem like an odd handicap. Must wait for more info.

Not necessarily. If the processor in Scarlet isn't as heavy-duty as the one in RED-ONE or Epic (in order to keep cost and size to a minimum), then it makes sense that there aren't as many format options in Scarlet.

I don't see it as intentional crippling of features. It's truly a matter of "you get what you pay for." There's a reason the RED-ONE costs $10,000 more than the S35 Scarlet. Find the brain that fits your budget, and be happy. :sorcerer:

Scarlet will NOT have all the capabilities of a RED ONE. It can't given the size constraints of the boards in the "brain". If you want flexibility and choices... upgrade your RED ONE or upgrade to an EPIC.

There's one crucial element for me, Jim, in terms of making my final decision on the RED ONE I have on reserve or one of the new cameras: what are the rough audio specs on the respective new models? Looking at them, I'm not sure I see provision for audio at all.

R1 is a hero cam and pice of history, and I'll never trade it in. .. but I'll probably get a Epic S35 too :)

I think in 10 years I will wish I had a Red One body sitting on the shelf in my home theatre / man cave / hall of fame.

Second thought, people will probably still be shooting with them!

the easiest way to make obsolescence obsolete is to rent whatever is cutting edge at the time.

People keep asking me - what will Jim do with all the Red's that are traded in? A giant Red shrine?

I totally agree Crewpix, the R1 will be like my deardorff or leica (10 years down the road that is), I may not always use it, but I will always gladly talk about the format, camera, and shoots that I did with it like i was reminiscing about my childhood, as well as being proud to have been shooting RED since the R1.
