View Full Version : When will there be news from RED?

sander kamp

Okay, I fully understand RED is busy with fixing the last things on the camera and dealing with all the orders that came in at NAB. But would it be possible for RED to tell us when they will come with news about all the things we are now speculating about? You know, just so I can stop hitting 'refresh' and get on with my life...

It is a bit of a problem... I find myself spending entirely too much time here.

Maybe they could have an email letter for res. holders, when they have some major announcements about the camera. That way the Red Team could go along and continue their feverish work pace, pausing only to make an announcement when they've reached a milestone, made an improvement/change or (God forbid) hit a snag. And all us fanboys, detractors and general enthusiasts could go on with our lives - at least until the next big announcement!

Good idea... we'll send reservation holders an email when we have important news. Now you can have that life you've always wanted!

To pass the forum and to share some opinions take you about a half an hour daily. Not to much for rest of a day. Somehow it becomes a part of my daily life. I've got addicted. Maybe that's a life I always wanted.

just ordered my red today but my wife is now so sick of my latest obsession that I'd be better of with a good old fashioned mistress to spend my spare moments with. It's only going to get worse too when the damn thing arrives. By then I'll be in such a frenzy having had to wait and watch all those brave, early trail blazers enjoying their new cameras. Thankyou Jim for opening up a world of creative possibility and for wrecking a fine marriage.

Join the club! For awhile my wife thought I was having an on-line affair with a RED head....She was actually disappointed that RED was ONLY a camera.
I said it's not ONLY a camera but the key to a better life and riches beyond your imagination....."What a crock" she says!!! Hmmmm how much money
are we talking about???

Hah! Yeah my wife also just found out "RED" is actually a camera too...she looked into it a bit and says..."Can I be in your next film?". lol

Jim, could you send out a monthly newsletter? This would be great. A lot of our questions could be answered and new features could be presented in a way that would clearify a lot. Since i was not able to come to NAB i had to check out the forums and other sites. There were a lot of missunderstanding among the different writers. So, a newsletter could help you out a lot.
Looking forward to my camera! /Christian

I'd prefer that it was on the forum myself, not being a reservation holder yet...

I sent a wire transfer last Friday for reserving RED One and the basic accessories but haven't heard back from them yet. That isn't something to worry about is it? I have to say it's not that comforting to send off money and hear nothing back. I think a simple response back would be warranted for such a large purchase.

I can't wait to finally have one, though, I've been excited about this camera since I heard about it but the more I read, the more excited I get. My friend David is also reserving one.

I expect the email will just be a copy of an announcement to the forum, or just say check the forum for an announcement.

JonathanLB: the wire transfer probably hasn't shown up on our end yet. We're also busy working through all the order we got in. Did you also send us an email?

I'd perfer that I got an E-Mail too. But no reservation though. I spend too much time here. I also need an E-Mail DCResource, DPReviw, camcorderinfo.com, HDForIndies, Engadget and DVXuser about the XH A1 and HV20. But then I'd just spend all my time on Gmail.

I spend two hours online in the morning and another in the evening. Last year I just decided to learn more about cameras because I thought mine wasn't good enough, then I go on a learning frenzy and I can answer peoples questions at DVXuser about cameras I don't even own! Yep, just a growing obsession with cameras and RED just made it bigger. Well, at least I'm not AppliedVisual! (He doesn't post much anymore; did he get off of RED?) Even when I watch a TV show, commercial, movie, the news, I always just name the camera when I see it. "That's an F900" "That's a DVX100" "That's the Canon Elura 100" "That's the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS" "That's the Canon EOS 5D"

I've just realised I've gone camera crazy!!:excl:  I even hold off eating to read about the RED ONE!

All I own is a JVC GR-D250U and a Canon PowerShot A620. But I know almost everything about the XH A1, XL H1, XH G1, HV20, RED ONE, DVX100, HVX200... And it goes on. But those are the main ones.

RED is better than film because I can't afford to shoot my personal projects with film. End of discussion. Now comes the part where everyone agrees with me and we all go home happy.

Jim said updated delivery info in a couple weeks. It's only been like 8 or 9 days since he said that. I will wait patiently... But it's killing me on the inside. :matrix:

Before I was told I'd get my Red in June. I'm sure hoping for mid-July at the latest! But honestly, I hope Jim takes his time and works out the last details. I'd rather take delivery in September if that's what it takes to iron things out. No worries from me, I touched the cameras with me own hands :-)

I prefer to be notified by carrier pigeon. Please, only on Fridays, because the rest of the time my Falcon likes his daily kills (there is an abundance of pigeons in Canada, too many for my taste). On Friday we feed him macaroni and cheese as per the ancient falconry code.

Orient your pigeon towards my home via google earth map - it's called Castle Loma. Pigeons adore the parapets. I anxiously await the first rolled up parchment with the RED waxed RED logo/seal.

I too snort this forum daily. I envy those texas poker addicts - compared to this forum, they're pikers.

My intention was to get a timeframe from RED when we would get news. Like: in two weeks we'll tell you more so you don't have to check here every 30 minutes.

But now this thread has turned into: while checking every 30 minutes let's have a chat. Welcome to RED café everybody.

Maybe you need to start a support forum for the wives.

Or, better yet, a new product launch. Pink One. Cover all your blemishes for $1.99. Even you can look good in 4k. Just put this on:

i'm doing to my wife what I did when I wanted to go to the casino and play texas hold'em poker. I made her my accomplice and taught her how to play. Now she sits at the $400 no limit poker table and bitch slaps everyone there. So I took her to NAB and now she wants to do compositing and special fx. So she makes money for us at the poker table and will do my post for my feature. Great in bed, cooks, and does my laundry too. What can I say. I got a great wife. :)

Yeah that's me only for like six months or eight months, not three. Oh well.

I won't get my RED until I'm basically done with film school, which is a shame because if I had it now and shot these stupid assignments on it, I could seriously embarass my classmates more than already has happened. I mean our last project isn't ten times better than everyone else's because of the camera, or because of the lighting, or because of our color correction, or because of superior editing (though all of that helps), it's because we told a meaningful STORY and they just screwed around with nothing anyone cares to see. It is all about the story, when it comes down to it, but to have this beautiful story shot on that beautiful camera... well, that's a dream come true.

I just want the tools to make my visions look on screen as I see them in my mind. All filmmaking equipment is just for that purpose, really.
