View Full Version : A very serious question for Jim

Hello Jim,

It might seem like a joke question, but I'm serious:

Do you have any plans to become a film director or enter professional filmmaking in any other capacity?

I'm asking because we all know you built this camera (partially, of course) out of your own frustrations finding the right tool. Also, I read you own a Varical and/or a CineAlta. We all know your interest in photography. And you seemed to get a great deal of satisfaction from watching Mr. Jackson work.

Just curious, a this thought crossed my mind yesterday.

Good luck with RED on the last 100 meters as they say.

All my best,
Mike

Why not - directing is 90% casting anyway... he seems to have done a good job with Red ;)

Okay, directing is about vision and setting the team going the right way... hmm, seems he has that down too.

Jim, let us know...

I'd be real surprised if Jim Jannard had any plans to become a film director or enter professional filmmaking - but it wouldn't surprise me to see him become a digital cinema director or enter professional digital cinema making!

IŽll say that the more he gets involved in the Red company as it grows, the far heŽll be from directing.

Doesn't he already shoot material for Oakley?

Can you imagine the set-design and props? And costumes? Eyewear? Would be a wicked looking movie!

Producer, that's my guess. That way he can hire all the cool directors that he wants. Pick the cream of the scripts that will inevitably flood his way and oh yea I nearly forgot rent all Red equipment for the shoot. I love it when a plan comes together.

He's been shooting Oakley stuff for ages (along with Brian Ferguson). Jim's an excellent photographer, cinematographer, and videographer - and yes he has the skill sets to direct and produce, maybe not narrative cinema yet, but about any other genre you could name.

Creating cool images is his passion. He's a real multi-talented guy...

IMO his big problem would be to find the time in a hyper-hectic schedule to hands-on produce/direct a full length D-cinema feature or television program.

He was one of the Executive Producers of "Crossing the Line".

Maybe sometime though...you never know...

Well he would be able to skip the worst part of filmmaking -- raising the cash.

"Crossing the Line"
Written & Directed by
Peter Jackson
Executive Producers
Jim Jannard
Fran Walsh

Jim said he is in Prague now for the production and shooting of "Wanted" directed by Timur Bekmambetov and stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, and Angelina Jolie. Producer Marc Platt set up the film adaptation of the comic book miniseries Wanted by Mark Millar.

For sure our Jim is also Executive Producer of that film project.

Just because of the RED business Jim needs some Hollywood credits right now.
