Now that the dust is starting to settle from yesterday's nuclear bomb of an announcement, I'm curious about the Nikon & Canon mounts for the Scarlet & Epic brains. Will they allow for electronic aperture control on Canon EF-S lenses and Nikon G lenses? I'm not particularly interested in auto-focus or image stabilizing, but being able to use SLR lenses that don't have an aperture ring is crucial, in my opinion.

Specifically, the Nikon DX and Canon APS-C lenses (which are significantly less expensive than full-frame SLR lenses) are perfectly suited for use on an S35 Scarlet or Epic, but many do not have aperture rings on the lens.

Of course, if RED could incorporate electronic focus control (a la Birger mount) that would be the bomb! But at least provide for aperture control on Nikon and Canon lenses. Otherwise, those mounts are almost not worth it (for me, at least.)

By the way, my brain is still exploding from yesterday's announcements!!! :sorcerer:

From Jim's brochure:

Leverage your investment in optics. Sensor modules support PL, RED, Canon and Nikon mounts, which may be interchanged as required to suit a specific lens or application. Mounts include power and intelligent lens data interfaces.

From Jim's brochure:
It does indeed sound promising, but that might just be in reference to the RED mount, not necessarily the Nikon or Canon mounts. If the folks at RED tell us officially that those mounts will also have electronic aperture control, it would make my purchasing decision a lot easier.

Just curious. :innocent:

I'm very curious about this too. Will the Canon mount electronically control iris and focus?

You have lots of time before you need to make a purchase decision. We'll give more details way before you have to do anything...

Indeed, there's still plenty of time. I'm sure you all will fill us in on all the juicy details as the release dates approach. We're just all really eager about the bombshell announcements, and are already making plans!
