tally light

A minor thing... Any place to put a red tally light on those "brains" or other area on the front of these new cameras so that when the camera is 30 feet in the air on a remote crane pointing downwards, someone can see from the ground whether it is running or not? With the menu option to switch the tally light off of course.

Even though the remote would tell you if the camera is rolling up in the air, a tally light on the front of the camera would be useful, though not essential. It's comforting to glance up there and see that the camera is recording...

I suppose a simple after-market attachment could work if there was a port for such a thing.

I suppose "high-tech" thing would be a little self-powered LED that stuck anywhere on the camera with a magnet or velcro, and was triggered by the remote wherever it was. Otherwise, a simple RED LED in the front of the camera somewhere would be sufficient. Like I said, the RED logo isn't a bad spot... though perhaps a RED logo would make it hard to tell when the red LED was lit or off.

Thats one of the reasons I got an Origo record button with a 50ft cable.

You can start the camera when the shot is framed in the air. You can see when the camera is running, and it tells you when the battery is weak.

If the camera is 30 ft up - you would need more than 30 ft of cable running down the length of the jib/technocrane/etc. wouldn't you?

Great idea... we do need a tally. Maybe one on camera and one like you suggest pointed where you need to see it if the onboard is in a bad spot?

A modular tally is ideal since sometimes you only want to see it from a certain angle/don't want it seen from another. What about a little magnetic bluetooth/wired tally?

I'd suggest on the side - like a film camera :-) - so it isn't reflected in things from the front.

How about an audio clip that plays back on startup:

But seriously, the RED logo lighting up might be too bright on the front of the Cam for certain low light situations. But an LED similar to the one on the EVF is a good idea.

I think the back somewhere...on the front I think would catch too many reflections, and we'd be turning it off all the time (or worse, forgetting to turn it back on).

The ass end like the SRs always had seemed to work out well. I understand the new-style of the Epic/Scarlet builds makes that a real trick.

Hard to see the back end of the camera when it's 30 feet in the air on a remote crane and pointed down... On the other hand, at least on the back I could see it go on when it's mounted on a hostess tray or hood mount on a car and I'm in another vehicle or on the camera car.

Honestly, who cares if most of the time, you have the tally turned off. It only matters that it is there when you think it would be useful.

Also a little Piezo Buzzer that beeps once when you roll and twice when you cut. ( yes of course you can turn it off )

We own a 30 remote crane and use it a lot. With a lot of cameras after we hit the remote start we look at the talley to verify that the camera is running this involves panning or tilting the camera until we can see the light.... makes a bit of strange opening footage for the shot!,.... Multiple talley lights front n back like the XXX company cameras have is helpful, the best would be if the remote wireless start stop box verified the camera roll and lit a light on the box. IF it worked like this I would ABSOLUTELY buy one rather than just wire up a remote wire to the camera.

If the camera was up on a crane, couldn't you just look at the monitor preview and see the time code clicking away.

The Origo & Monstercine remote start/stop both have tally lights and are pretty essential if you're doing crane work - how are you going to run & cut otherwise...without just leaving the camera running and murdering your storage? Otherwise it's pretty annoying to have to whizz the crane arm down everytime you want to turn over or cut (a surefire way to p**s your grips off...which doesn't take much at the best of times :wink:)

GPIO port and Origo can do this now.
