This is my brother-in-law Ryan Hayes, and I can tell you, he's no angel, but this was a fun pic to play with. This shot has been slightly color touched in adobe lightroom but nothing major in post. The halo is real.

In-between the discussions on lenses, white balance and the hypothetical world of RED to come, take a guess on how this pic was taken. Then post a strange or fascinating pic of your own

Waiting on news from RED

It's a sticker on a glass wall/door lit from the camera side to cast the shadow.

Did I win?

it's shot either through a watertank (aquarium?) OR your brother is the reflection on it...
i'd tip on the first one.
so the "3D ring" is a bubble - yeeee!!!! when can i get my free red one?

Yes, this was shot through an aquarium at the exploritorium in Goldengate Park. The shots look terrible due to yellow water and 10 million fingerprints and scratches on the glass, but the affect of the air bubble was pretty cool. The timing was a pain in the butt as I was new to the camera (Pre DSLR nikkon 5700 P&S) and the bubbles often broke up.

Sorry No prize just somthing to do I guess

For being an old point and shoot, I sure do like my nikkon

The tank was designed as a demonstration tank for differant bubble patterns. The exploratorium in Golden Gate park is a hands on science center for kids, and this tank contained a programmable controlled patern show made up of bubbles. The tank next to it has a hand air pump on a high pressure head. With a little luck and good timing you could make perfect rings of your own.

It's amazing on the uncompressed version of the rings how much they look like polished chrome

I'm a red-neck, and it's San-Fran. I live about four hours north and I always get a little lost when I go there. Thanks for the correction and the link.
