We have managed to get the costs down on the production of RED 8GB CF cards.

The new 8GB RED CF price will be $165.

Just a heads up for anyone about to press the "buy" button tonight :)

Are there some formats or resolutions that will only work with the 16gb cards?

You do not get all the framerates you get with the 16gig. Check the manual on red.com/support for details.

This new pricing is good news, guys. It's always nicer to go with the official RED CF rather than Lexar. :)

Although the fact that it is now possible to shoot RC36 16:9 at 25fps with the new 16 GB cards make these even more attractive compared to the 8 GB.

Wow! I will definitely pick a few up when i finally can get my hands on my scarlett. That said I suppose the 16GB could be a lot cheaper by then...Either way great news!

When can we see a drop in price for the 16GB CF card? Not being too greedy, $475 would be pretty sweet.

Wont happen anytime soon.. it was more than a year for the 8gb cards to drop , and we just started shipping the 16gb cards.

Of course now someone will complain that you have devalued the 8gig cards we already own. What we need is for you to introduce reduced capability products for higher prices. (for anyone that can't figure it out - I'm kidding. Now, how about reducing the harddrive prices so i can buy another one.)

Not really market pacing, 8gb cards at Costco drop every few months.

I hope to see 16gb Red cards at $299 by NAB.

2x160Gb is not so much for today's standards... I think they should start thinking about finding some 2x500Gb solution.... and maybe make it RAID1 instead of RAID0 if transfer rates allow for it . Add a RAM buffer for impact protection to tie it up pretty nicely:biggrin:
