Does Avid DS spit out timecode (from DPX) to tape? And does DS take in Timecode from DPX files produced by REDCine?

Yes to both.

Now I guess the other question is, can I feed the Timecode from the DPX file to tape, instead of new time code being create from a timeline.
I was thinking of Importing DPXs, throwing them in the timeline, and laying off to tape; but I need the tape to retain the Timecode from the original RED footage.

Sequences don't contain broken timecode as source tapes do. The XML to ALE from scratch cine uses the timeline timecode as source and the original TOD in the TC24 or AuxTC columns as needed.

You can't do this. I don't know any NLE that can have broken TC in the timeline. Even if it could you'd have to have an NLE with TC out connector on the breakout box. DS actually has one but it doesn't work that way.

Unless you carry the original TC as LTC on an audio channel..

Or pass commands out via RS422 that reset the VTR's internal TC generator to a specific time code at each edit point.
