Does anybody know if itīs possible to set framelines in the RED EVF, for example to have a guide when shooting for 1:2,35 ?

thanks for your help

Yes these are available for - Full frame, 2.35, 1.85 and 1.78 and / or TV safe action / title / image center for 16:9, 14:9 and 4:3. Your choice of colors, white, black, red, blue, yellow.

Good question, would be nice to have letterboxing as well, actually.

I'm so glad to hear that. I assumed there would be lots of options, but had no idea it would be so comprehensive and customizable. I should have guessed that knowing the Red team:) Very cool...

How about a "rule of thirds" grid pattern?

I have this little Canon point and shoot that has this built in. When it's turned on I have seen such a profound difference in my compositions I would love to have this feature available on my RED camera too.

99,

Thanks such a cool, innovative idea.........

There was talk of 'user defined' frame markers...not sure if 1/3 markers could be included in this?

Stuart....publish a SDK and we'll do it ourselves!!!

Isn't that what Sharpies are for? ;)

Cool! I love having choices (of colors)! It's okay if you don't have this, but will the out-of-frame area be able to be darkened at varying percentages?

I know it has been mentioned several times before, and I don't know if it will be implementable in this particular RED camera, but having several customizable user-defined overlays for the EVF/LCD would be incredibly cool. You could create a custom overlay as a greyscale image (for varying levels of opacity, so you could darken the out-of-frame area to your liking) in Photoshop or some such program and upload it into one of three (or something) user-defined custom presets in the EVF/LCD, set your preferred color, and shoot.

THAT would be really great.

In a previous post on another thread, he said yes to that. The framelines are available on the EVF and LCD, but not on the HD-SDI outputs. Only the EVF and LCD display full camera GUI, including framelines. There are easy workarounds if you need framelines for a client monitor.

This accessory is also available in RED ... :-)

Rule of thirds idea ...

Spec anyone - please consider the issues of framing for cinema and TV as well .... so how many grids would there be?

Well this is basically how it looks on my Canon POS.

As far as the RED Cam: I guess I was just hoping that it would scale to fit within the TV/Cinema grids?

Anybody else?
