Perhaps I'll just buy the cage to play with until I can afford the camera.
No, I'm serious.

i was on the fence between the basic package and the pro package but that video convinced me to go with the pro package. i wish red would release detailed videos like this on the evf, lcd and lenses. they would sell even more kits and accessories.

Its an awesome invention by itself, if you can find another camera small enough to fit in it its not a bad decision. I would feel stupid putting something like a dvx in it though.
Someone photoshop a bolex rex into the cage.

I think those things are not quite ready for prime time yet. Red is pretty good at promotions, so I'm sure we'll get plenty of info when they're ready. Let's hope it's soon.

Written info and direct communication from Red and their employees was top. But they could show way more images, videos etc. - look at nab 07, it was the members of this and other forums and websites who did coverage. I´ve never seen so much pics of any camera and accessories.

Some thought has been put into it - especially the carry handle which can be balanced which was always difficult with the PV millenium or Arri SR3 for example. Sensible too to think about attachment of all the extra stuff. However, look at the mags on many a camera and you will see they tend to get bashed at the back - backing up into walls, hitting doorframes etc. NOT where I would like to put a hard drive! And would be nice if hard drive clicked in rather than having thumb screws to tighten?
Always easy to find some fault though..

yep,
this is exactly the stuff that I had in mind when I started the thread entitled red one dvd tutorial...red one is such a beast and with all this creative new accessories they've implemented there's so much new stuff to learn and explore...hope to see more of similar stuff in the future...hopefully gathered on a well designed and shot dvd tutorial

I love the design!
BTW, The loud bass noise in the bacground of the video is that "crossing the line" playing?
Just curious ;-)

Yep, the bass is from the movie! :)

This was great. It gave me a whole new perspective on the quality, size and flexibility of the cage and the design expertise it took to make it.
Seeing the early 3D renderings were great but actually seeing someone handle it gave it life.
This also confirmed my choice for the premium package.

My understanding is that the hard drive can be mounted anywhere on the cage...

Cailyoung is correct.
Keep in mind that we're a small team trying to finish the camera & software for everyone. We simply do not have the time at the moment to put out videos etc.
That's one of the reasons it's so good to come out to a trade show so you can look and handle the equipment yourself (and see a 4K movie in our case).

but the youtube videos aren't put out by red. only by reduser members and other video folks. most of the red products shown in the booth were covered by the red team and demonstrated. with the exception of the pj short, red always permitted video cameras to document everything in the booth. i guess i'm just asking all the redusers who shot video interviews or demonstrations to post them for the benefit of all those who couldn't attend nab.
thanks

This video, along with the Ted interview by FreshDV, are two of the best example interview/breakdowns out there.
Before this interview, I really didn't "get" the full functionality of the cage concept, or the design thought behind it, or even truly understand how the cage and accessories could work together.
