View Full Version : New Idea about a 3D Film Camera
i do since 30 years 3d in still pictures and i have a very large
"home cinema" with a 7m wide 2.35:1 screen.
may i can add later a link with some pictures.
my latest pr. is a 3 chip dlp 2048x1080 a barco cinema pr. dp 2000 with a 4000 watt xenon lamp and doremi cinema server with some 2d and 3d content blue ray player and so on.
i use a christal eye 3 shutter glasses and i display my
own (still pictures) from a computer and display it in triple flash
2x 72 hz to the screen.
as the barco dp 2000 is the first pr. that can do 144 hz in full
2048x1080 res. i buy them april this year.
as i am very big fan since that long time about 3d i like to see a real
good 3d film camera and i saw the red picture.
now a question to some of the red r&d department as i have a idea
how to make a good 3d camera.
if money is not a big issue why you not use such a big sensor as
the 617 have and put 2 optiks in front of this single sensor.
as the eye distance is a critical point your limit is than only the diameter
of the optic itself.
there are a lot of advantages when you do such a system.
-no sync problem as left and right is 100% the same picture
-can do small eye distance good for close ups.
-flexible eye distance
and much more.......

Hi rico,
i would like to see pictures of your 3d projection system, seems interesting.
thanks, Marco Neiva.

Hi rico,
i can only say "WOW".
what type of footage in 3D you can view?
your 3D projection system can play 3D content from a normal PC? For example, using appropriate software like "Stereoscopic Player" (http://www.3dtv.at/Products/Player/Index_en.aspx), or play video-games using graphic cards like Gforce and Nvidia Drivers?

I've heard some rumours on this forum some time ago , from I won't repeat the name by now, developping a system to project 2x 2k on a Red one sensor.
This way is somewhat similar to the one you were mentioning and I had thought already the same thing, but then Red sould decide to build another camera for doing this, and it seems we wouldn't be able to put the optics in different distance from eachother, also the sensor would need to have some kind of mount system in front to protect it to dust and environment and the optics still might be a little to large to use in a proper way.
But the greates thing you mentioned hasn't been discussed to much, about the sync between the 2 cameras and the easy of use if both eyes are gathered in one stream of data, which might be a better sollution to handle post if much data is involved...
anyway i hope they still come up with some great designs and ideas regarding the 3d side of things...
hi marco
i use a doremi dci server with some 2 and 3 d content but most pictures
are are home still 3d pictures that i do with a rick with a 45° mirror
with 2 canon 5d inside.
mr. trautner from austria make than a computer for me.
with them i feed in left right left right the pr. with 48p(2x24p)
and the barco can display it in 2x 72 hz at full res.

sony have a projektion system for there 220 4k pr. that do the same.
they using 2 parts of the pr. chips to have at the same time both
left and right images at the screen.
but dlp can that much more easy and usig the full chip for this.
one problem is that ti have no 4k pr. anytime soon and thats very sad
as we have now such 4k cameras and soon even more resolution
but no good dlp to project such images.
why no one develop a sensor that have 2 x 1920x1080 (3840x1080)or
2 x 2048x1080 (4096X1080) resolution?
than you can build with one chip a 3d camera without having sync or other
problems.
also possible to connect 2 seperate chips (mechanical seperate)
but electronically connected.
that makes it easy possible to shift the eye distance
easy to the minimum you can do.

Hi rico,
and that computer has some special software to play 3D content?
if you need 3d content to test your projection system you can use some contents 3D that i have, like my first 3D experience entirely produced in 1080p or 3d Movie - Hannah Montana 3d 720p and much more.
I liked to know which the result of my project in your 3D projection system.
thanks, Marco Neiva.
hi marco
i use my computer only to feed still 3d pictures till today but it can change
when i have a good recording and playback system for 3d video.
i not remember what he put on the computer but it have a software on
may its stereo photo maker or so.
send me a pm so i can send to you the mail adress from the guy and
you can ask him.
for 3d video i use the doremi cinema server.
