maybe i missed this discussion already, but is RED working on its own distribution format?

Like a Quvis playback devise. I see they are on the Red company list.
and was thinking maybe in the future you could buy a RED 4k player.

then you could take your 4k movie to any digital cinema in the world, plug and play. if its portable. and even better if the Red projector is almost portable as well.

though I do have a request to make the Red 4k projector to have the option of being the brightest digital projector ever. If Red is going to have simliar resolution of 70mm why not have the brightness of 70mm as well.

I use to work as a projectionist at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. And man 70mm lets 4 times as much light through as a 35mm print and wow its insane.

Having 4K resolution is one thing. Having brute force light intensity is another.

I can see Red creating a projector suitable for color correcting and small screening rooms to round out the Red production system, but for exibition - that's a whole other can of beans. That's not just technology innovation but horsepower that costs a lot of money.

I think that is also another market altogether.

My bet is on a small projection system probably no larger that 12k lumens.

you're possibly right. I was hoping they were going to be competing with sonys new 4k projector.

I disagree. I think it will be targeted at cinemas as well.
Thats the whole idea, to revolutionize the industry from acquisition to exhibition.

There is a huge market for exhibitors around the world to purchase the 4k projector from red with its cost effective pricing.

They said a range of projectors. Obviously they will have them for small screens (for DI work, dailies etc.) but I think they will also have a Cinema model or two.
