Forgive the crude drawing. The proportions and everything are way off I'm sure. Anyway the idea is this:

What if there was a module that the Brain dropped into with a nice cutout that included I/O's and the data Recorder.
It would come around the bottom of the brain and have rosettes on each side and provisions for lightweight rod support.
It could have a mounting point for A V-lock battery plate at the back for Bricks.
It could have multiple CF slots at the back as well as provisions for alternate recording methods.
I was also thinking there should be a smaller Redmote that would be relatively thin and fit right next to the brain (it wouldn't need to be wireless).
I/O's would be on the dumb side of course.

I understand this might kill the idea that all modules would work with all cameras, but there could be one for Scarlet and one for Epic, but there might be a way to make one for both.

Maybe the whole thing could be a little more skeleton like as well, and still use different modules for i/o's and recording.

Anyway the idea was to come up with a way to have everything intergrated together in one nice snug package. It could be a terrible idea, who knows.

Thoughts?

It wont be as compact/light, as just the modules connecting, but this seems good for more extra protection and ergonomics. If it has a ''brain frame spacer'' then you don't need two. I like it!

It seems like this form factor could be replicated with the shoulder piece and a basic rails system, with mounting a brick on the back. It looks a lot like a boxier version of some of the renders already (especially if you make it more "skeleton like" as you mentioned)

Maybe I'm missing the point? I guess I could see how having the I/O out the back can be helpful. Those renders don't have an I/O module on them.

The biggest difference between this and anything done with rails is the ability to drop center of gravity below shoulder level, place the VF at a nice level and keep FF and other controls within easier reach. All of the rail solutions tend to be very 'tippy' and nowhere near as stable as this solution.

This thread (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15869) describes the value of this setup.

I like this a lot. It's sorta like when Band Pro made that rehoused version of the F900. What the hell was that thing called?

Now that I think about it, you could just take the guts from the I/O and battery modules and CNC up one of your own.

I love Red One but I HATE playing erector set when I build the camera.

Yeah Clayton I hear what you are saying about the erector set. I'm all for modularity and options, but i was thinking about something like this so you could keep it built and pull it out of the pelican and be ready to go in 10 seconds.

very common complaint I hear on a daily basis.

Christ. can't keep up. might all be irrelevant. exciting times for sure though.

Looking at the 'endless configurations' it looks like it might be possible to put the rails with the shoulder pad on the top of the camera which would get you ergonomics close to this. We'll have to see.

I don't have any doubt that some third party will come along and build something like what is being proposed here once the Epic and Scarlet Brains are on the market. As soon as those expansion modules are out someone will either rehouse the guts or reverse engineer the interface.

I for one am really really really happy with the "brains" concept. Things will be rad in a year. :innocent:
