From site..

Some hints:

1.) If you've been thinking about buying a Mac edit system, maybe holding off a few days could be a good idea.

2.) If you don't have a Google and PayPal account set up yet (for shame!), now might be a good time. And if they are both under the same email address, all the better.

3.) YES, I said announcements, plural.

Intrigued?

Good - then my work here is done.

Stay tuned over the next several days, by sometime next week some Good Things shall be revealed....

Trying to find anything about Apple hardware release patterns/announcements beyond general timelines or rumors is pretty darn difficult. Unless it's the much hyped launch of a major consumer product (iPhone, Leopard, etc.). But a machine to do editing on? Best you can do is figure a rough generational timeline for release cycles and work off that. Most people don't know, and the ones who do are NDA'd like you wouldn't believe.

I'm pretty sure I know what it is. But I won't spoil the fun.

If I am correct, this is an HDforIndies annoucement ... NOT a new Apple hardware annoucement.

Think about what makes up an editing "system" ....

Mike did not said A NEW MAC edit system.
So nothing connected to any known rumor about upcoming new Apple hardware.
We've got 8 core Mac Pros 2-3 weeks ago.
Have a look at Macrumors Buyers Guide

Product Mac Pro
Recommendation: Buy Now! - Product just updated *

Product MacBook Pro
Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon

http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

Then Mike probably is selling ONLINE his own collection of G5s, monitors, BM and AJA stuff.
That is about a Google and PayPal account set up and it is about a list of hardware/software
and prices "announcements, plural".

My interpretation of Mikes last post was that he is looking to go 'pay for view' with hdforindies and his first offering would be (assumption) his recommendations for an Apple based Red edit station.

Hell if thats all then thats a big yawn Mike. Dont scare us like that

Heres my 2 cents...

Buy a Quad or 8 core Mac, throw 8 to 16gb of ram at it. Put an extra Seagate 700gb SATA drive in it (use it for your Project Data and AE/PS scratch and leave the Primary CLEAN) Get FCS2. Get CS3 Premium. Get a Xserve Raid with Fibre Channel(expensive but worth it if your serious). Buy an AJA IO or wait and see what Blackmagic do. Only buy the monitors and card you need right now(like a couple of Dell 24's) because there will be better ones released when you REALLY need them. Im not sure on the output monitor though, probably depends on what you editing for. If its for broadcast your still need something conventional that is interlaced. Decks? Hmm nothing for input (yippee I can sell that Digi), but what and how are we outputing 4k....lots of ways probably. Mike?

My bet is he's coming up with some kind of external SATA RAID. Maybe he'll use that new Magma express box (www.magma.com) so you can plug it into your laptop on set. Purely guessing here.

I had a dream, RED had made a really big announcement of something, I forgot what it was, something mother board, I don't know. Anyway, it happened to be the same day that Mike made his announcements and nobody cared. The End.

That's my real dream by the way.

EDIT: I just remembered, Jarred said that Mike had to sell all eight of his PowerMac G5s.

Oh man, I am just rolling on the floor with this one! Hilarious!

I'm also waiting to hear what the announcements are. An 8-core Mac with Final Cut Studio 2 was sounding pretty good right now, especially now that I'll need something beefier than my little G4 Mac Mini for HDV footage from my new HV20.

BTW, Mike, I have that issue of DV but I haven't got around to reading it yet, finals are this week and all ya know.
