1895, Auguste and Louis Lumière (light in french) -- the two brothers who opened 1st commercial cinema, presented (openly) their first footage.

111 years ago...BTW, I have the #111 RED ONE serial number... :)

Love those Lumière films. I got to see several of them projected at the National Gallery about 16 years ago. I've seen them on dvd recently and they're still great, but I'd love to see them projected again.

Amazing in some respects how little film cameras have changed throughout the last 111 years. Will they be around in another 111? I'll wager a pint or two, but you'll have to meet me in 2117 :D.

By 2117 we'll all be brains in a liquid-filled jar with cables connected to speakers, and a pair of RED cameras as eyes.

Can we ingest a pint via USB?

there's nothing like watching a bunch of people walking out of a factory at the end of a workday.

Let´s hope the world has moved on from USB in 2117!

Damn, does that mean I have to come up with something that happened 234 years ago? :)

I've tried but I didn't catch anything for you Blaine :). BTW, I found these guys [LINK (http://www.brainyhistory.com/daysbirth/birth_december_28.html)] who classified a birthdays' list thinking the brothers Lumière as twin brothers (as matter of fact they weren't -- now it's already fixed, I stand corrected my previous misinformation): Auguste is from 1862 and Louis from 1867.

But the cinema as we know nowadays, effectively born today (therefore the twin brothers mistake -- as well we all are: twin brothers in RED).

If you ever visit spain, you should visit the "Girona film museum". They have many many tools of the pre-historic film industry. Including lumiere cameras, negatives, etc...
