Hi all
Not really a complaint, but wasn't sure which topic to post under so...
Done a REDuser search (and with Google) but couldn't find the answers.
Just taken delivery of my two early reservation number cameras, and having fun familiarising myself with them. However, having done first assembly, some issues and questions have arisen.
1) On both my cameras, the two top mounts I own fix fine to the mounting bolt holes on the rear of the camera bodies, but don't quite line up with the mounting bolt holes on the front of the camera bodies. The problem appears to be that the front plate of the body (that the PL mount collimation assembly attaches to) appears to be fractionally high relative to the body so that the top mount is pushed about 0.5mm above the proper position.
I could enlarge the top mount bolt holes, but that wouldn't solve the problem if say I rented out the bodies to another RED owner who then tried to use their own top mounts on them. I can see where they might try to force the bolts in and end up trashing the body helicoils.
I could slightly loosen the 8 little front plate bolts and try shifting the front plates down 0.5mm, but I don't want to void my warranties. Anyone else had this issue?
2) The cradle battery v-lock is secure if knocked from above or the sides, but tends to pop off completely if fairly sharply knocked from below. I've tried reseating the battery 30-40 times and it still doesn't stay put if knocked from below. An IDX plate I have is far more secure (not 100% resistant to upward knocks, but I have to hit it really hard to make it fail). It also doesn't make a double click when mounting the battery as has been suggested as being necessary by at least one REDuser in the past.
I believe RED updated the design of the plate to address contact issues. Not sure if it also addressed security of the V-lock. How do I tell if it's the new design?
3) My two focus hook kits only had one bolt each instead of the two mentioned in the RED Store - is that correct?
4) My PL mount "ears" are similar to the design seen on this page:
http://www.red.com/cameras/
rather than the current lower profile version. Were there clearance issues with the original ears, or a reason to be dissatisfied with them over the new design?
Thanks for any info.
Eric
