I basically ran out of space to the HDD I was rendering to mid render. Red Rushes kept on rendering and producing junk 8k quicktime files. Taking a full day to render all of the files and NOT telling me that I was out of disk space.

Premiere used to be good at that! I haven't used it for years though.
Thanks for the heads up, the last thing you need when processing R3Ds for days on end is unreported disk problems, or garbage output (which is Redcine's job).
Should be an easy bit of coding to perform a disk space check, at least before each new QT is started, with a warning window?

I know what it was now. I had not installed final cut yet which meant no proRes encoder was available.
Switching to another codec solved the problem. h.264 is the perfect proxy anyway IMHO

H.264 is very demanding. If you don't have ProRes, try DVCProHD. It looks good and is not taxing your system too much.

I scale to 640 with "fit width" for laptop editing and later conform with crimson->redcine->after effects
not that demanding at that size, i would never use it for anything else than small proxies.
works well
