I am prepping for a job where they will be shooting in PAL. They are hoping to shoot with a timebase of 25fps, at 50hz. I am in Canada. Is there anything to look out for?

I have already noticed that when I switched the RED to 25fps, and 50hz, the video output, when run through a downconverter, came out as PAL format, not NTSC. This is interesting, as they are on steadicam the whole time and I need to transmit.

Are there any issues/fixes with regards to shooting for PAL release in Canada, when it comes to flicker and such?

Any advice is appreciated. thanks.

I am in a PAL country, and I don't think you will have any flickers problems.

make a test with HMI just to be sure

that's the point, if you're in a PAL country there are no probs. problems arise if you're in a 60Hz country.
This means traditional light bulbs etc. will probably have flicker as the sync between 60Hz lights and 25 fps is lost ...

Although you use 25 fps,
If you have any neon lighting, adjust the shutter to 1/60 to avoid flickering

thanks. also, i have set the HDSDI out under the 'monitor' tab in the RED menu to 59.94 instead of 50, just to get my NTSC Video transmitter to work with the signal. It seems to do the trick. I wanted to ask if setting the monitor out to 59.94 while shooting with a 25fps timebase will be okay when they get the footage back to PAL-land.

If I don't see any flicker in REDCine, then can I safely assume it is all fine?
