What happen to Adobe Plugin?

Will it ever see light?

Is there any external pressure from Apple / Assimilate?

Is it to due with Adobe CS4 release?

Nothing was clear cut from Red / Adobe.

Deanan - Please update the status.

I can only secound that. All the Adobe press releases state that the plugin is already released. On the day that the release was supposed to happen one had to dig deep through the forum to learn anything about what is happening; only to find a vague statement. How can the dev team only on the suggested release date find out that they need a couple more weeks. The way we as the Red users are being (not) informed is really frustrating.

There are a lot of people who are working professionally with Red and trying to earn our living. Please give us some clear idea what is happening and what to expect (when).

Thanks and regards,
Jonathan

Software development schedules don't always work out as nicely as planned. Last minute feed back from the beta testers and a timing miss on a fix in AE made us reconsider the release date at the last minute. We informed you as soon as we knew. We feel we made the right decision with the feedback from the beta testers to continue working on some of the issues.

Everyone has been working tirelessly even through the holiday weekend to get it released as soon as possible. If we have a solid date that we won't miss, we'll post it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe it would be helpful to have a small info on the red.com/support site which tells people what is happening about the plugin. If one googles for r3d/red and premiere most of the sites comming up first will state that the plugin is available at support site; which it isn't. Not knowing what is going on and having to dig through the forum to find out is not really how one wants to learn about the bad news.
Just put up a small note that work is still in progress and it will be made available on the same site as soon as it is done.

I think it is good for Adobe if the release is less buggy than Color.

And I think they will be.

This time they let Apple take the heat :)

Thanks for the Color update, though! A big step in the right direction.

recent updates made me shift back again to fcp+color.
my workflow was rendering red files with redcine using apple proses hq and cutting with ps cs3, but now prores in cs4 has become unusable. playback is gone, lost somewhere. even if you render the timeline, there's no way to get a smooth playback.
ae cs4 has become so memory hungry that you probably need a supercomputer to get thing done. playing back more than 200 hd frames in ram preview has become a distant dream.
i wrote to adobe, but so far they didn't care to answer.
i cannot use cineform since i'm not really keen to install windows in my mac.
so, with the new plugin and color working (almost) well, fcp is the winner.
red workflow is improving everyday, but it has become a jump left & right race.
i believe pc guys with cineform are having good laughs at :umm: us....
next step sideways: adobe plugin?....

I don't mind the wait for the plugin, I'm not working with any R3D files as of right now. I just want a workflow that is manageable when I do get a camera. But isn't what separates Red from other companies, their ability to adapt to what the people want and mold their products to fit the publics needs?

The RED One was released knowing that it had flaws, and the people who invested in them early, provided the feedback necessary to get the camera where it is today, and beyond. Why not keep with what makes RED such an awesome company and make the BETA a public one? Or at least make it available to those who actually have cameras? Wouldn't the more BETA testers make for a better plugin?

I'm a patient person, I'm willing to wait, but I feel it's only fair to give RED some leeway when it comes to developing their products. Because that is what they are doing: DEVELOPING. They are taking things above and beyond what the other guys are doing, breaking down barriers, thinking outside of the box. Who are we to tell them to conform to deadlines? I'm fine with letting them create in an unrestrained environment. Constantly beating on the door to complain is only going to pull them away from what they should be doing.

Also its been noted that they are targeting early December, give the guys a break, its ONLY DECEMBER 2nd.
