If you went to buy a Firewire drive at Best Buy, and the salesman told you that you could save 11% by forfeiting the warranty and buying it used online from someone you don't know, you'd call him a moron.

And batteries have a set life cycle, which means that they depreciate in value faster than other used equipment.

This is a horrible offer all around...

Everytime something is posted for sale on this forum there's always someone who needs to be the policeman and tell how bad the deal is. If you went to buy a drive at best buy, how would you like it if an annoying shopper was hanging over your shoulder all the time telling you not to buy that?

Seriously, if you're not interested in buying, then please let others make a decision.

This is a discussion board. We discuss things. If a for sale offer is worthy of discussion, it will be discussed. Try Ebay or a newspaper ad. Not much discussion there.

In my opinion buying used hard drives is about as smart as buying used gum.

On the other hand, I have a whole bundle of lottery tickets from last year I can let you have at face value!

Yes, things should be discussed, but if you're going to discuss it, then tell me what you think it's worth instead of just saying "horrible offer all around."

These hard drives are only a few months old and used to shoot 2 features. They were actually part of a set of about 10 other drives, so they got very limited usage. Pretty stupid to think buying them is as smart as buying used gum!

Did you happen to chime in when the other used drives were selling here for $900 and one instance for $1000? $800 is a good deal for something that's several months old and used very little.

Jeremy:

You're not wrong. A lot of these guys think other people are incapable of making decisions on their own. Fortunately, most people recognize it for what it is and scroll on by. Gook luck with your sale.

Nick.

I have actually posted several times whenever I see a bad offer on this forum. If you want to know what I actually consider reasonable for used hard drives and batteries, I would say around $550 and $250 respectively. Any more than that and I would rather just get the full warranty and service from RED. Hope that helps.

Well, for what it's worth, thanks for your opinion. No Red drive has EVER sold for $550. I've never seen anything below $800!

If anyone would like a Red drive for $800, compared to the other used drives that sell for $900 and up, I have several available. Like I said, they were used very little and are only several months old. I will guarantee they will work when you receive them or I'll refund your money. Just send it back to me within 7 days. My ebay id is jpwiles - 100% positive feedback.

I hope it all works out for you. Sorry if I sounded harsh. I'm just kind of a chicken when it comes to buying used electronics online. Best of luck.

guess that changed huh?
as a seller, you might want to show a little grace instead of being so aggressive in your posts, especially since the other guy apologized.....and yeah, if you're going to post, be prepared that reduser people in the know will balance things out for the newbies and people who aren't in the know so that noone gets taken

No-one's getting taken.
I paid a big premium recently for Red Drives, when they were'nt avaiable from Red. I'm no newbie. I've got no less reason to be confident about those drives than with others I've bought. A brand new drive might suffer a knock on set while I'm not looking, and I won't be told.

I vote for a paid classifieds section of Reduser - with a once off small fee - say $10 to post.
If some valiant knight on a white horse wants to save newbies from harm, maybe they can pay $10 to post a warning. Money could go to charity.

FYI, we just ordered a new red drive last night at 4PM and had it here today at 2PM so it appears they are caught up on back-orders now.

Good luck with your sale. When we do something, there's always a stumbling block in front of us. Just overcome it, I support you. Good luck

Mark and Chinnifer, thanks alot. No worries here. At the end of the day, it's just a hard drive... that's all. I've got more important things to worry about. Hey, I do love the "newbie" comment though! Ya got me there! lol.

Mark, my team and I will be in Australia in late Jan working on a feature, actually pretty close to Sydney where you're located. We need to rent a steadicam, if you happen to know anyone who has one.

Chinnifer, I plan to be in China in February. we'll need a steadicam there as well. With all the gear we'll have with us, it's too much to lug mine around. If you guys know of a rental house in those areas, please let me know. thanks for the help.

Hi Jeremy,

Which city of China will you work in February? Beijing? I am in Nanjing. Tell me so I can contact some steadicam rental company for you.

Good luck!

how many charge cycles are on the batts ?

Yes, I agree with Julio. Buy from RED with Warranty. The only reason it was sold for above RED store prices because they didn't have them in.

Again, it is used regardless how few months are on it. Plus you used it on two features. I'm guessing it was used alot during those few weeks or months. Period.

How many hours were used on the drives?

I'll have a look at the char cycles... first need to update to build 17.

I'm not sure and to be fair, I don't want to guess. I can tell you there were 10 drives total, so the usage was spread over all the drives. These three drives and batteries did not film two features all by themselves.
