View Full Version : We need two new forums at Red User...

I don't believe I'm alone in noticing that there has been a lot of posting activity around here lately. Good. And not so good. A great deal of signal, but obscured by an even greater level of noise.

So, I'm suggesting two new forums; first the, "Everything Red is Great," forum where posters may gush all over themselves praising Red and all connected with the company.

Second, we need a, "Everything Red Sucks," forum, where posters can bash the great nonexistent camera scam, Jim Jannard, and all his troops.

These forums should be open to all, no real names required.

Then we can put all the worthless posts in one place, well, two, actually, and happily ignore them.

Professional Red shooters depend on RedUser to get vital information; we shouldn't have to wade through a sea of rubbish to get the information we need.

As a last shot, consider the "Dec. 3 Responses" thread; well over 2000 posts. There may be some valuable information hidden in there somewhere, but who has time to read that many posts?

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I still think a REDUSERPRO or REDOWNER site is the solution to some of these issues Leo. Time and time again i will be looking for a specific thread that has valuable information in it only to have to sift through 25-50 pages at least of praise, insults and "hey I'm new here" posts. Lets get down to brass tax and finally have a site dedicated to the people who actually own/benefit from working with the cameras day to day, whether they are owners DIT, Data guys, DP's, editors, producers directors, whatever. If its important to them to get a valid question answered or any other valuable information to share I'm sure professionals would pay a small fee to deal with the convenience factor. Do the "I's" have it?

Sounds good to me, even with google at my side it's hard to find stuff on this board. However i still love the camera and will continue to "gush". Does being an owner allow me that privilege?

We (mods) will be cleaning up a lot of the noise. Things will be a little hardline around here for a little while until things calm down...

How about a subforum that is "Advanced Users" only or something like that, where people can have serious discussions about serious red camera issues and future camera development ideas? Invite only. Starting with invites from mods and admins, Jim, Jarred, etc, to legit contributing members. Trolls would find it nearly impossible to get in.

Certainly R1 ownership might get you a ticket, but then again, there are some onerous R1 owners, too, who have been adding more noise than signal. The guy who got banned last night owns two R1s.

There's no way to control who posts what where.

But I like the idea of "private" or "advanced" forums that only certain people see. You'd have to be invited into the forum that way we keep the riff-raff out.

I'm surprised there isn't an "owners only" forum for communication directly between owners and Red.

Let's talk about this. Hope that this forum will be created. Hope that someone will invite me to the party.

I'm a little surprised also, but on the other hand there are a lot of very skilled professionals who post here who are not Red owners, and I feel their contribution would be sorely missed if such a forum was Red owners only.
Perhaps the invitation idea would be the best way to go.
However let's wait and see if the moderator's clean up tactics have any effect.
Tom.

Seems that this started during/after NAB 2008. I remember this community really helping others out, and there was a sense of camaraderie. This will always be the site of Free Spirits and not fear mongers/elitist/sheep/etc.

I apologize by getting too excited during and after the announcements, for I know I helped contribute to all that noise cheering too.

I believe this idea was tossed around a few months ago. The owner/invitation only idea has some merit.

The juvenile whining tone of some recent contributors has certainly been unwelcome. I have been sorely tempted to respond at times but silence is the best response to foolishness.

Personally, I would welcome a tougher line from the moderators.

I guess the noise is a part of reduser that belongs to it and will come back severely evertime some news are out.

There are many, many pros who shoot with red and never had a sneek into this wide open ocean. For most it is impossible to gain any information - unless you are a long time follower and occasional coontributer like myself who kind of knows how to navigate throu this endless kosmos.

Redusers foremost duty is to work as a marketing tool. And even you never touched this forum someone is telling you the news. It's working well.

If you want serious infomation, say cinematography, there are better resources.

Still there is a facination about this board. Interesting, isn't it?

Noise level here now is insane, up from moderate a few months ago. I have a couple professional peers who rely on me for real info on the Red; producers, other DPs.

"I can't deal with that board" is something I've heard more than once.
