Ran across this today. Seems like a pretty good deal. i don't know what you would use it for though at that wide.

Hi,
I have one, it's a bit of a toy, the mechanics of the lens are not that hot. Optically OK but I would not use it for a paying job.

Nice spot Matt.
for $800 its worth having in your kit, although its use is fairly limited.

Yes and no... remember that for high speed recording we will have to 2K windowed or 720p windowed (at least for the time being) - which will make the Peleng feel more like a 16-18mm, perhaps with some strange distortion. I think this lens is a no-brainer purchase - SO CHEAP! You can buy new on ebay for $500.

Matt what camera did you use for that spot. And did you have to use any of the filters that come with the peleng. I have this lens with M42 to canon EOs adapter and use it with my canon slr, some people have said that you need to place the uv filter for proper focus but I can't get it to work that way. Without filter i can get good focus just wondering if that is an issue when you filmed. Thanks

Hi,
Depending on the lens collimation and your camera you might be able to focus without a filter behind the lens. In theory there should be a blank filter there which you can remove when you want to use another filter.

Yes I meant the clear filter. It still changes the focus so I use it without any.

I was using a 435, Fuji 50asa and Kodak 5246 ( for the interior shot ) .
The lens is impossible to filter from the front, and I shot this before the versions with cine filters were available.
Due to diffraction it looks pretty shabby past f8 - so you will probably need a quite a bit of ND when shooting outdoors.
I took the clear filter and snot taped a small round piece of n6 gel and re marked the barrel using a lens projector. The focus shift from the addition of the gel was very minor. A few degrees different on the barrel. Without the glass filter on the back the markings are wrong the other way and infinity is at about 3ft.
I'm looking forward to putting all manner of strange optics on my Red.

What cine filters for the 8mm are you talking about? I have searched and find no reference to cine filters for the 8mm just the ones they always shipped. And what lens projector. I just looked at the filters that came with the lens . I popped the green and orange out of the filter holder. they are cheap plastic and from what I can see offer no optical change of any kind except color. I just glued some nd on the holders and will see what happens with my slr.
Thanks again
