I have been trying to find out how RED handles dead pixels.

I have gotten replies from other vendors - DALSA, SI,
Viper and Genesis.

They all do it differently, but they all seem to work.

I am really interested in how RED deals with dead pixels.

Thanks for any information. :help:

As it relates to dead pixels... every sensor has dead pixels. And every RED sensor has a dead pixel map with dead pixel correction. No RED sensor will have dead columns or dead rows. If there is any way to see dead pixels in the footage... it is rejected. Dead pixels are not acceptable in RED footage. Period. If you receive a camera and see dead pixels in your footage, we will fix it. I would not accept a camera that had dead pixels and neither should you.

Ok.
Supposing it's like that.
For how long RED will guarantee good sensor's work?
And what about replacement.
Is there any idea what would it be the cost in the future for replace the sensor?

I'm Sure RED will have a Clear Policy on the Sensor on what They will have as Replacement and future sensors (I assume it will be perfectly fine)

I was the one who asked this before. The answer seems to be approximately like NIkon etc do it with a map. This is a good system as unlike the Sony system it is not limited as to how many dead pixels can be hidden. This inferred guarantee is not somthing you will get from Sony either. When our HDCam had uncorrectable dead pixels after three "repairs" at sony's us main repair facility they suggested buying a new sensor block for $22,000 US dollars. I suggest that since the RED sells entire for 17,500 they will not charge any price like this!!! I believe Si uses a similiar system to the RED correct its a map no? others are rental cameras anyway so whaaaa about how they do it. It will never cost you to do???

Even if assuming, god forbid, that you accidentally blast a high power laser (or whatever) into your lens and blow a ton of pixels on the sensor, at 4K you have so many surrounding pixels for approximation that it becomes a non issue really. Could possibly be even fixed with a funky debayer. To quote the red website..you got data to burn.
