I can't remember reading this anywhere before and doing a search for battery mount doesn't give a great deal of help. I was wondering whether Red have designed a piece for mounting the battery if the reddrive isn't being used. Looking at the renders it appears the battery attached to the reddrive holder and this doesn't seem to be something that can be modified to remove the drive holder and simply hold the battery.

Obviously for the many people using the flash options having the extra weight and bulk of the drive holder is largely unnecessary.

Sorry in advance if this has been raised before.

I've been wondering about this also, especially for handheld work when using flash. Of course if the option pops up to dump footage from flash to drive through the camera, I'll keep the drive on there most of the time.

I´d also like to know if there´s a way to attach the battery somewhere to the right side of the camera ( like Arri 235 / 416 or Aaton 35III, XTR, Xtéra and Penélope) since I think it is too bulky to either put it on top or to the back of the camera.

I'd imagine it to be unlikely Kalone since most of the inputs/outputs are on the right hand side. I think on the top makes most sense for on camera mounting as long as the handle can be raised above the battery when mounted. Look at other digital cameras and they are a fair bit taller than Red's.

I'd like to see the option of mounting the battery underneath the camera and or on the side or tripod. Any other suggestions?

You can mount a battery on the back, on the top, on the bottom, on the side... in a backpack, on your belt or wear it as a hat (just to make a fashion statement).

LOL - now a RED Hat would be pretty Pimp.

But can you mount it on back of the rails without the RedDrive holder? I presume given the arrangement of mounting there must be some kind of v-lock piece that connects to the mounting points on red for placing it on the top, bottom or side?

I think what Paul noted (mounting without cradle) is what bugged me a little bit. I´ve understood that we´ve the possibilities to mount it everywhere, but right now, with the cradle, the battery seems to be a bit "alienated" or "add-on". This will be more obvious with the sata module, then the cradle is for the battery only.

@Paul: yes, I know about the problem with the connectors, but I thought about some extension thing, where the cables exit in a rectangular style underneath. But this also leads to the question why it couldn´t be done like the Arri's and Aaton's where cables exit backwards or downwards and only tiny connectors for remotes come straight out of the camera.

Will there be cables we can buy?
