There has been an issue that has popped up with our RED that has happened several times. The theory is that sometimes the camera automatically limits contrast or internally may iris the image down based on a bright spot in the image so that the picture becomes underexposed. It is not apparent on the shoot, everything in the monitors looks okay, only turns up in post. I'm not entirely sure about this theory though; has anyone else seen this and is there a setting/bug?

In which space are you viewing your image ie. REDSPACE, RAW, REC709?

I think it's more likely post screwing up. Like maybe you shot at > 320 and post interprets it as 320. RED post is a work in progress and everyone's learning still.

Hey guys, I finally talked with the DP and we did a test to see what was the problem. I wasn't on set and the DP at the time didn't know the camera operations, and our theory is that the DIT had turned up the exposure setting for the monitors/video out, and wasn't checking the actual exposure of the RAW signal, so what he thought was proper exposure was actually underexposed in RAW. Now that we have a clear understanding of RAW vs. REDSPACE, we shouldn't have problems. Thanks for your help anyways.
