Bruce,
Its not really my place and you may stomp me if you like but what happened to you? You used to be this incredibly constructive and informative force here.
You have been very cool to me a couple of times and given me your time and valuable advice and your posts are among the most informative.
Can you take your beef where it belongs and stop being so pessimistic. Call Jim and have a conversation I sure he would love to talk to you.
Its Christmas!
DogDay.

Is there a direct...
REDrushes-----> AVID DS
workflow?
Just wondering...

Bruce,
Its not really my place and you may stomp me if you like but what happened to you?
Short incomplete answer is that I tried to make a short film using the exact method described on www.avid.com/red and discovered that:
a) REDCINE wasn't really usable (okay)
b) there doesn't seem to be a concrete plan to make REDCINE usable in the future (that's really bad) - RED's resources seem spread way too thin
2.5 months later (after spending 40 hours writing my own c++ program to fix things - still waiting for RED permission to post it on REDUSER) I am finally beginning to edit. That kind of delay coupled with total lack of response to issues (take a look at the REDCINE forum and you'll see what I mean) would put anyone in a bad mood.
PS thanks for very nice tone of message and PM and sorry again I am grumpy

you dont need "REDS permission to post it on REDUSER", its yours not theres.
Plus Im sure they have figured out by now that REDCINE is shit
I think some honest, informed pleas and criticisms get wrongfully labeled as "grumpy," when actually they're just...well, honest, informed pleas and criticisms.
I too am a frustrated Avid/RedCine user and Red owner. And like Bruce, I'm very excited to hear about the next step in Avid's integration of the Red workflow. Very excited.
Aha. This is in the Avid newsletter:
The Avid and RED workflow is now simplified with the release of REDrushes 3.6, which includes direct transcode to all DNxHD formats. Download the PDF reference guide today.
And so if you wanna get a sense of the Avid update you need to read the PDF available through the link Jarred referred us to. Call me hard to please (my mother does), but I'm not as excited as I'd hoped to be. :-)

If you all subscribed to the RED update email on the main page, relevant updates to the Avid+RED workflow are sent out with each of the changes detailed... ;)
In addition to how REDrushes changes things, the 16Char EDL template has been modified to allow up to 999 events instead of the 254 defined by CMX. As soon as REDCINE and Scratch Cine get updated, there will be new XSL to support those changes, etc.
And when "other" items of interest hit the streets, it will be via the update as well. I try to update here as much as I can - but the email has an automated action behind it.

Thanks for the updates Michael. Keep em coming.
Bruce keep doing what you're doing. I don't find it grumpy, or disruptive to tell us what problems users are having. There are problems. This workflow, the Avid PC workflow, is not as simple as it should be, but it's getting there.
Once the Metafuze workflow is set, we should be a bit better off.
Chris
Don't you know, everything is beautiful in Red land these days, just perfect!
I think I just heard about a new red camera that performs sexual favors too! Although it's release date is about a year away. Downer dude.
