How about a nice mushroom cloud over Nagasaki or Hiroshima with the Red logo coming out?

Yeah. Maybe a nice "concentration camp" theme on the next one. Sony reps going into a gas chamber.
EDIT 11 May 07: The poster I quoted has clarified that his intention was the opposite of how I interpreted his above posts, and has now deleted those posts. He was actually expressing distaste for the military imagery, but the sarcastic tone doesn't come over in a text based forum, so I apologise for the misunderstanding.
I'm considering deleting my own post except that it does address some of the bashing of existing Japanese camera manufacturers elsewhere in the forum. And the thread might make no sense if I delete, as it has been quoted in posts by other users.

Hmmm. :umm: Bit close to the bone
I'm definitely no fan of Sony's pricing policies and dripfeed technology, but that's just big business practice, and hardly unique to Japan. Look at Microsoft. When your primary driving impetus is the bottom line and your big shareholders, it makes good business sense to do what they do.
I find Japan bashing a little irrational. I mean when the Z1 came out it really was amazing. I still think it's a great value camera for what it's likely uses are. Likewise the HVX200, despite the P2 pricing.
Where Red differs is that the impetus for this camera was primarily to make a kickass camera for Jim's personal use, and he wanted to share that vision with a few likeminded people. Making some money on it was icing on the cake.
Now it could be a medium/high volume business success though, it will shake things up nicely and allow more people affordable access to professional quality tools. Japan will respond or surrender the market. I'm betting they'll respond.
Red's continuing advantage is that it's private, small, nimble, and personally invested and driven, but also unusually well funded for a startup. It looks to be continuing to develop products to undermine existing market strategies.
We all win in the end.
And no I'm not Japanese. :matrix: :calm:

Irony doesn't translate well on this medium does it? I am sort of against the use of war imagery in advertising.
Hate to be that guy, but my grandfather treated radioactive burn victims in Tokyo as a WWII occupation force surgeon.
Maybe we could get a desktop with something positive and not a picture of the weapon that killed hundreds of thousands in a country that is now our ally.

My uncle, who I was named after, is a paraplegic from the Korean war. And no, we don't think use this imagery to suggest anything except that we are "at war with conventional thinking". You are taking this all a bit too seriously if you conjure up anything else in your brain.

Hey Casey. I've been wondering "where you been?" I haven't seen you on the board since before NAB. Did they work you hard?
Well I haven't got my number yet or my delivery date but I joined the revolution.
I figured since I've always been on the "bleeding edge" of technology for the last thirty years I figured RED was the next train so I better get on it!
I think it's going to be a fun ride.
BTW, I had a great talk with your brother a few weeks ago.

You guys are reading into Jim's wallpaper way too much, relax a little, many of us have lost loved ones due to weapons.
I lost my grandfather in WW2 due to a Mauser rifle, yet I shoot the Mauser quite often because it's an all around fun rifle and IMO, target shooting is a great hobby.
Besides, Jim said it himself, it symbolizes being at war with conventional thinking, a nice metaphor if you ask me.

Hey Keith,
Yeah, It's been a crazy past few weeks. I was out at NAB, and immediately came back to work on a Feature at Fox, so it's been non-stop. Also, in any spare time, I've been working on my own projects/websites. I'll send you a link.
Glad to hear you have jumped aboard.
