Hi,
I am trying to decide on a 8TB or 12TB hardrive with mirroring for working on 4k Red footage of around 4 hours for a feature film to be output on 2K. Will be working on FCP and grading in Color on Apple 8 core dual 2.8 Ghz Intel based MAC with 6GB of RAM and AJA Kona 3 card.
I require users opinion on this ...with an eye on safety and economy:innocent:

Mirror for safety and fiber channel for speed makes a happy editor/workflow.
If this is a real feature with a real budget use the Terrablock, that 's the move I made in 2006 for the feature "Dale", It worked flawlessly.
You can select the most common raid levels + Mirroring.
Upgrade drives only
Add frames for increased storage capacity and bandwidth.
This unit is in the top of it's class...The Terrablock by Facilis

You may want to check out ProRes, but I believe using color pulls the project from 10Bit,(Apple ProPess422HQ) to 8bit.
If it's for a film-out be very mindful of cadence issues!:pinch:

Hi David...
Approximately, how much does their 8TB or 12TB RAID cost? Does it use 10,000 RPM drives, 7200 RPM, 5400? What makes this branded solution better than putting the same together with raw parts for less?

I am not comparing multiple manufacturers, and current price points...the price of drive space for the dollar seems to be falling, faster than........ the dollar!!
The Drives are qualified and run at 10000 RPMS. I have not looked into current pricing, but in 2006 when we reviewed our options, this was the most cost effective for the amount of storage and bandwidth.
This is one option that worked well for our movie, Lets make this tread a place to hear about other successful storage solutions!
