I thought I'd take a moment and express some thoughts.
First of all, I really want to thank all the people at Red. Not only for building an awesome piece of equipment, but for making it affordable for people like me to use it. These past months for me have marked a real change in my life.
I know a lot of people say that the camera doesn't make you better, and for the most part this is true, except when you add in the fact that because I knew how much I was spending on the camera and other gear, I have gotten better. I've studdied more, read up on things I haven't really thought about since school, and broken down a couple of my own mental blocks in the process. That is what insperation can do, and that's what this company and its vision mean to me.
7 months ago, I met a group of actors and tech people. We go together to shot a film for a competition. It was supposed to be 5 minutes max, and my first rough cut was 13 minutes long. You can imagine how well that finished.
Since then we've gone on to do 9 more competitions, and successfully completed 8 of them. We've won a number of awards and made a good showing of it. Our biggest negative, I've always felt was the camera we were shooting on, an older Sony DSR 250.
Now in 2009, I see even better things. I am making better connections and we're leaving the timed competitions behind for the most part. I love working with my camera, and it's exciting to see the doors that its opened for me.
I couldn't have done this without Reduser. Many people here have been very generous with their time and skill, bith in general, and also specifically with me, and I really appreciate that.
I find it funny when I see very professional people trying to push Red to be the very best, even to the point of seeming never to be satified with what seems to me to be the best thing ever to happen in my professional life. I understand the concerns of those who have established reputations and have risked some of that to support this camera, but from where I'm sitting Red is basically manna from Heaven. It won't get me to where I'm going, but at least it will let me try.
So thanks again to all the people at Red, and all of you on Reduser who support those of us really starting out. I look forward to a time when I get to do the same for others.
Stay Frosty!
