View Full Version : Fog Kills (sounds like a slasher film)

So in my travels on the 99 and I-5 during the holiday season I noticed all these new signs up for Foguniversity.com, which I guess is some attempt to say that fog is what kills all these people every year in these amazing 40+ car pile ups. I think this is really an unfair shake fog is getting. Because it isn't the fog that stops the cars in the middle of the road. Its the lame ass people that stop in the middle of the road. So instead of addressing the problem, which is people stopping in the middle of the road because they can't see as well and not pulling over to the side of the road. They try and demonify the fog, saying that its the killer not the idiots that stop in the fog not realizing that they aren't the only ones out in the freeway. Its part of the latest trend, which is to shift the blame away from the guilty and towards something else. I just wish people would pull their heads out of each others asses and start thinking for a change.

This kind of dribble is the result of second and third generation lame-ass stupidity. Why in the world did the state of California pull the drivers ed program and replace it with this meaningless dribble. If you see the sign in the fog what are you supposed to do? look up the unfinished website on your i-phone? while your driving? If you don't know how to drive in the fog by the time you get to the sign your pretty much S.O.L
Also if its tulle fog like the stuff they get in Sacramento or the lake effect fog off of lake Michigan you're screwed no matter what. When you can't see your own windshield wipers there is little chance you'll give a damn about a billboard.
when you have to drive with your door open so that you can see the white dotted line, then wait for it to break so that you know you have already entered an intersection that you hope is not only unoccupied but also not a T, its probably time to get off the road somewhere and wait it out. but where? Who the hell knows?:bleh:
Just thought I'd add to your rant.

Good points man, had me laughing. Most of the time on the 99 and I-5 the fog isn't that bad. But I've been in some fog on the CA/OR border and that was really dense. But even that stuff you can kind of keep going with your hazards on and driving like you would in the snow with no chains on...slow and steady. Of course I'm talking about the fog you described, which is the worst case scenario.
Personally I think the drivers ED and driving test should be like a rally course. That way they could learn how to control a slide so they don't spin out because everyone drives like idiots in the rain...at least in LA. If an intensive driving course was part of the drivers test I think we would see far less accident. Not to mention far less people getting their licenses, which is another plus. But then I'm sure we would see the number of people driving without a license increase.
