Hi Guys, I would like to make a request of Red for all us non U.S.A Scarlet/Epic customers.
If at all possible can Red arrange for the majority of accessories shown on the Scarlet/Epic page to be available when purchasing the Red Camera including Pelican/Red case and lenses. I know its a big ask but purchasing equipment from the US has cost me at least an additional 10%-15% in the past. Shipping and import duties can be a killer. If I can purchase all my accessories and lenses when buying my Scarlets it would really help as I may be able to negotiate with customs and claim company rebates etc, especially in the current economic climate.

Just one final request, if at all possible can you please open up the ordering process as soon as the Camera Specs are finalised.
I ask this as I wish to sell some of my other cameras (HVX's and Accessories etc) as I wont have a need for them when my Scarlets arrive.
I know dates are not set and I am fine with this; but setting up a list would really help know when I can start putting them up for sale. I have a small production company and any savings in the current climate are welcomed.
I am glad to say my HVX's have served me well and paid for themselves; but now I need the advantages the Scarlets will offer in terms of lense configurations, resolution and DR for securing larger projects.

I'm sure Jim and Red understands the pressure on small companies in the current Climate and any help in this regard is appreciated.
Regards

Till

I may be able to negotiate with customs

How do you do that, give them an offer they canīt refuse?

Kidding aside, I didnīt know customs was negotiable, where iN the world are you located? best of luck with your future Scarlet, and a soon to be happy new year!

Actually it is possible because it depends on what code it's shipping with etc and what you can claim at customs.

For example, when we got our camera to Denmark everything was 0% (even accessories), since a digital camera with accessories is non taxable in Denmark. So if it states that it's an Motion Digital Camera (and you stress the word digital), you can if you know your ways get it in for 0%.

BUT we didn't get our accessories for $38K that we ordered in extra afterwards. Simply because they didn't come with an order where the main item was a "digital" one and we got taxed approx 4% for it.

So yes if you know how to, you can definitely "negotiate" with customs.

I would advise against selling your "old" camera before you have received your scarlet, and have had some time to feel comfortable handling it.

Nothing worse than showing up on a paid job and not knowing the camera inside out.

Well, actually there is one thing worse: selling your old camera in anticipation of a shipping date, then that date being missed and you having to show up on a paid job without a camera / with a rented camera that you don't really know inside out.

Great suggestion Till, I have run into the same problems when buying from the US. (I am living in Ireland). Also it is possible to negotiate or arrange for equipment to be classified by customs once you are up front and contact them beforehand they will deal with your requests. The main thing I have found is to order in one lot, it saves on everything.
