Ok, so in light of the delays,

My company has been thinking about what we'll be shelling out in rentals waiting for the REDONE untill next January and have come to the conclusion that it might not be a bad idea to pick up a Panasonic HPX 500.

2/3" chips, and ENG stuff etc. I figure we can sell it at a slight loss when RED comes out or keep it around as an ENG camera for rent. Here's the deal though...

We currently shoot alot on HVXs and use a redrock M2 which has a really nice if somewhat hard to manage look. I'd like to use either a redrock or a PS Technic mini35 on the HPX. I know the pro35 is the adapter of choice for 2/3", but at $27,000 it's more than the camera.

The Redrock and Mini35 are designed as post fixed lens adapters. Does anyone know of what's entailed in mounting one on a B4 body short of mounting it at the end of a full ENG lens. I figure there must be somekind of prime lense that will make it possible.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

Isn't the REDROCK designed optically to give 35mm depth of field on 1/3" chips so wouldn't work right on 2/3" chips? Or does it matter?

well technicaly yes...

I have actually made the redrock work stuck on the end of an ENG lens on an HDX 900. It was just to see if it could be done. It worked, but the resulting concoction looked like some kind of frankensein deal with a nikon lens mounted out beyond a canon ENG lens.

But what I'm asking is if anyone knows how to make one work with a 2/3" chip without the ENG lens in between. I belive it would be a matter of a B4 mount lense or something of a fixed length (small peice of glass) with a 72mm bayonet mount.

Also with reference to the micro 35, I've actually seen a reference to one designed for 2/3" chips, but it appeared to be a discontinued model or something. And aside from one post, I can't find anything else.

What you would need is a prime with macro capability. I don't recall ever seeing one and I am not even certain that they exist.

You might get on Redrock Micro's forum and ask your question or email the company, directly.
