I have searched the forum and cannot find an answer to some basic questions I have before putting down a deposit.

Who makes the Mysteriurm chip? Is this a red chip totally or did they have the initial technology from another vender?

Let's say I get my camera a year from now - how will technology have changed at that point? How is the technological advancement of this camera viewed? I want to make sure this is a long-term investment.

Thanks for any help.

Please read Brook's faq... The mysterium is RED proprietary tech and replaceable as tech gets better... try that with anything else. Read Steve Gibby's posts and articles as well. Good luck in all your endeavors...

Cheers,

Andrew

It's a sticky thread:

Images are down at the moment though.

Images will be back up on the 16th at the latest. My bandwidth gets hammered on here.

But here's the long story short, AFAIK:

Mysterium is proprietary RED technology... made by RED for RED. You won't find that sensor in any other camera.

If you get the camera a year from now, it'll probably [I say probably just because I don't know for certain] have the same innards. It'll have a newer version of the firmware or software probably... but that's user upgradable [for free] anyway. If RED designs some new key component - say a new sensor - you should be able to upgrade your camera with the new part[s]. As they're so fond of putting it, they're "rendering obsolescence obsolete."
