View Full Version : RED Extendable Grip Handles Idea....

So here's my idea....

How often have you found yourself wanting more or less extension on your grip handles when doing hand-held work?

Personally, in many situations I've needed extenders which aren't exactly the easiest pieces to attach. Also, they only come in a few different lengths, leaving me wanting more control over the length.

So.....why not create a front end handle that is extendable by nearly double the length of the stock handle via a push lock pin design?

Please forgive this crudely put together illustration but I think you'll get the idea of what I'm after....:umm:

As long as you can't push the button and the handle comes off all the way, allowing the camera fall while you are left with a handle in your fist ;)

How about a locking cap on the bottom end then. :sorcerer:

You mean that wasn't the plan all along?

Cheaper than building my own, I guess.

I'll throw in a yes vote as well, definitely be nice to have.

The concept is very good and would be very helpful. The engineering of pull locks and pin holes tend to be sloppy and loose and get worse over time, and would also be a noise problem. I am not knocking the idea as I think it is very good. There just is probably a better engineering answer then pull locks and pin holes.

Great idea though Alexander.

Duh, mis-interpreted your drawing.

One of the things we had in mind was to create a modular, versatile system. If you want to make better handles and attach them, more power to you. But if they are really good... we just might rip them off. :-) kidding.

To address Finner's concern with the push-lock pin design's stability, here's a rod pin with screw tip option for solidity.

I'd be more than flattered if anything. Let's make a deal, I give you the copyright, you make me a set, and we're good as gold. :sorcerer:
