Actually, what's interesting is that this camcorder can record both 720p and 1080i/p directly to SDHC cards in Quicktime files ready for immediate use in Final Cut Pro.

I believe this is the first time Apple has licensed Quicktime for use in an HD camcorder.

How many decades will it be before these companies like Panasonic, JVC, Canon, Sony, etc, release a prosumer camera that can shoot 1080p/60p? Is there some kind of a weird cosmic force preventing this from happening?

2/3 Scarlet is going to drink their milkshakes when it comes out.

I think the main thing that intrigues me is the naitve integration to Final Cut, but like Tom said there's no 1080p. The convenience is there for sure, but image quality, plus Scarlet on the horizon. Cool but not cool enough.

I'm particularly interested in the 720/60p setting. This will likely be the smallest 720/60 camera on the market. Plus it actually records the 1280 wide rather than 960 DVCPROHD style.

Looking forward to some tests and what the street price will be.

Yes Tom I strongly belive that it's "weird cosmic force" :)

if you mean weird cosmic force in that no one actually watches 60p, then yes, it is weird.

on another note, no LANC or TC options here? but I suppose my request for a hi-end feature like external audio synch is probably akin to your request for higher frame rates.

i'm talking about overcranking for 24p or 30p playback. there seems to be some mystical force out there preventing these companies from producing a prosumer camera that can shoot 1080p at 60fps. even the ex3 cannot do it.

Over cranking it seems, has been left for the higher end cameras. I assume that these corporate product development meetings throw a bunch of features on the table, they figure out what they can include indexed against their target price - and things get chopped off the list. I also would imagine that there is a study group that keeps tabs on their higher end camera sales and potential impact of a cheaper camera into those sales too.

yeah, but keep in mind that not even $60,000 Varicams can overcrank 1080p @ 60fps. it's ridiculous, imo.
