My feature film jobs got settled down a bit, so now I have little more time to check the Adobe workflow with Mac Pro.

I installed the latest CS4 AE and PP, installed the Adobe Importer and the AE plugin 1.3.

AE seems to work okay but when I import native R3D files then they look like they are displaying at log gamma level (or metadata is not applied), although proxies look like it is applying the metadata.

In Premiere Pro, I see the RED presets and proxies no problem but R3D can't be selected in the import selection.

Anybody else having same issue?

I read more to find out that I have to change the Color Management in do some script change to handle the appearance, so I'll try that.

But still can't figure out why Premiere Pro is not seeing the Importer.

I see the problem now, I think this is system language issue. I was working within Japanese OS, so I'll switch to English (also have to install adobe apps in English) and see what happens.

I installed the English versions but still the same situation.

Okay, I got the premiere working finally, so it is conflicting with something in my system.
CineForm, GlueTools, Blackmagic Driver, metaSAN... any of these I guess. I'll find out.

Now, I installed the PP and AE CS4 in my other 2.8GHz 8 Core with CineForm, metaSAN, GlueTools installed but strangely, this worked. But I installed the real "English" version instead of "English (International)". Maybe be there's something to do with 2-byte language support. Now I'm going back to the 3.2 8 Core and install the real "English" version.

can premiere read proxies right into the timeline?

I tried and although the read me file of Adobe Installer mentioned that proxies won't work, I think they mean for Windows and with Mac, proxies seems to be at least playing within Premiere Pro.

But over all, Adobe workflow isn't really stable at this moment for me at least.

I find it stable, for sure. I can import r3d source material, edit, render, etc... w/o crashes on a 3 ghz 4 core PC running XP pro sp2 (should be using sp3 for CS4, but can't because of Scratch...)

But why would you want to use proxies when you can just read the actual .r3d file?

we run on MetaSAN without conflict.

Mark,

Thanks, I also mentioned that other machine with all of the similar software installed worked fine (although whole thing isn't so stable, easy to crash). So, metaSAN, CineForm, GlueTools weren't the problem.

John, I mentioned proxy since Avenger asked. It's good to know Adobe workflow is stable on Windows.

Works for me on Mac too, but then I don't use proxies. I think Adobe never really tested that, since they aimed at native editing all the time.

Uli,

Maybe my instability is coming from the additional video hardware but how about you? Was it Kona you are using?

Possible, we don't have Kona, not even BlackMagic on that machine. We are using BM with FCP/Color only right now, the Adobe setup is a testbed.

I think it is more reliable without additional video hardware at this point I think.

I think Adobe CS4 hardware support is coming on 4.1 updated that is what I heard.

I found out my unstableness was coming from having video hardware installed.
I removed the driver software then Premiere Pro started working stable.

Hey

I also have CS4 master suite installed ( all adobe soft updated to latest) and I installed the RED CS4 plugin. (ppro and AE)

The strangest thing! I opened Ppro and I could import the .R3D file and play them fine.
But since they were at Quarter resolution, I tried to put it on FULL resolution. I closed PPro and restarted. Since the restart I CANNOT import .R3D files anymore!
I reinstalled the plugin several times, but still nothing. the .r3d files are greyed out!

How can I remove every thing from the red install? I hate it when there isnt an uninstaller. Can anyone help plz?
