Is this the bad boy you're talking about? It's described as a 50mm lens by jessops...

It's a lot more expensive than the 50mm f1.4. Is it that much better?

I don't believe that lens is a Noct, which differs in that it's optimized for shooting wide open. I believe the Noct is very much more expensive.
Here's an auction for one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-58mm-1-2-Noct-AIS-Nikkor-manual-focus-lens-NR_W0QQitemZ260117300065QQihZ016QQcategoryZ48556QQ tcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
A really interesting lens would be the Leitz; it's an f1.0. Not sure how you would mount it, but perhaps there is a PL adapter out there somewhere, or you could pay big bucks to have it converted.
I'm thinking about trying it for the extraordinarily shallow depth of field and interesting Bokeh. Something like a Super Speed is very fast as well and may produce similar effects without the hassle, but undoubtedly more expensive.
Of course it's all academic until Red delivers!
Good shooting and best regards,
Leo

Yup, that's the real McCoy. That lens has a mystical reputation. I've been wanting to cop one forever.

I believe the term Noctilux is a trade mark for the Leitz (Leica) 50mm f1.0

Unfortunately for us with the RED ONE+Nikon F mount the Nikkors will never be good as Leica.
