Mickey Rourke!! His turn in The Wrestler is among the top 3 performances of this decade, IMO. Glad to see Mickey win the Globe tonight for Best Actor. I hope he will take the Oscar home, too.
Aronofsky deserves a lot of credit for coaxing this performance of a lifetime out of an actor many had counted out. Was it a fluke that Arononfsky got this performance from Rourke? I don't think so. He also pushed Jackman to one of the best performances of the decade in The Fountain in 2006.
What does this mean? It means actors are going to be lining up to work with Darren Aronofsky.
Definitely see The Wrestler, if you have not already.

I think it also means you can completely screw up your life and career - and still get back on top.

The guy might have lost his face in the ring...but IMO, has always maintained his talent on screen...

He is a typical example of face lifting and plastic surgery that you could find with many actors and even more with actresses.
Don't forget Faye Dunaway, Jeanne Moreau, Catherine Deneuve ones beautifull women and today "ugly" old-timer ladies.
Even younger one changing their look with "pumping lips" like a Julia Roberts and Anne Hathaway just to name a few...
Karl Lagerfeld said: "Cosmetic surgery? "They turn into monsters. They [look like they] have survived a dangerous car crash, no?"

Yesterday you were "Belle de Jour" (female) or "Handsome Boy" (male)
today your skin looks like a "Galapagos Iguana" or you are a "Cosmetic Surgery" monster like a Chanel designer already described :)

Loved the film; classic performance. It's one of those film's that stays with you the next day. Highly recommend it. The 16mm was perfect for this; you don't always need 35mm DOF and resolution to deliver. Aronofsky is a brilliant filmmaker.
I spent the last hour watching some interviews with Mickey; he's a man's man, a no BS guy, and definitely has gone through a journey. Worth checking out the interviews.
