Hello!

In order to pre-configure the system before the actual camera arrives, can we ask for this info? I remember Jim said "think Arri" when it comes to this, but we need to know the exact distances in order to know what kind of mattebox we need and all the other stuff. As for me, I plan to use all my Arri accessories on RED - Arriflex sliding base plate, 15mm rods, mattebox, lens support and so on. I'm sure the lens and mount dimensions/distances are locked by now, so can we plase know the following, if possible:

- Optical center height from bottom mounting surface (this is useful for someone to know if he needs a camera raiser for his particular Arri accessories)
- Optical center offset from tripod bushing (from the mounting hole, which is the center of the mounting surface and will be deadcentered between the rods - to see if one can use his current Arri mattebox).

I assume the rods are 15mm at 100mm apart.

Thank you for the info!
Mike

The rods' sockets are 19mm at 100mm; a 15mm lightweight (60mm spacing) adapter is available. 15mm at 100mm would just require some sort of collar, right?

Well, you don't need the 19mm RED rails if you use your Arri accessories. You can mount the RED to your own Arri baseplate which has whatever rods it has (15mm, 19mm, etc). It becomes only a matter of knowing the optical center distances to see if your accessories will fit. If not, we need to know exactly by how much it differes in order to build a camera raiser to get the RED optical center back to Arri's specs.

15mm @ 60mm
19mm @ 100mm

AFAIK. I very well may be wrong.

Now I'm all confused. I thougth the 15mm spacings were 60 or 100mm and the 19mm rods were at 105mm.

Hi Chuck,

Those are the right no's. Fairly sure Red knows them too!

Again, once you put your RED on your own baseplate, you have to configure everything based on that. If your baseplate has 15mm rods, well, you're going to use a mattebox and a follow-focus for that. Same if your plate has 19mm rods. It doesn't matter anymore what rods come with RED. The only thing you need to know is the exact position of RED's optical center (usually, measured from the bottom mounting surface in the vertical axis and from the tripod mounting hole in the horizontal axis). Surely this must be known by now.
